AI Archers seem to have Indirect Fire

Has anyone noticed the AI making illegal shots since the patch? I had not one but two separate occasions where an AI archer shot one of my archers through woods or a hill in my current game. I was so flabbergasted last night I didn't think to take a screenshot in either situation. It seemed like the old Civ V bug where if the archer could shoot you BEFORE it moved, it would move and THEN shoot you from a spot it didn't have line of sight.

I think there's instances when you're standing on a hill they can see you even with forest inbetween.. I was assuming it's intentional but haven't figured out the exact mechanics

From a hill you can see over a forest without hill or hill without forest.

Right that's same as civ 5, but the Q is, does it also work in reverse for ranged? Eg archer on Plains, forest in between, and target on Hills on other end. Can the archer shoot? I think in civ 5 it couldn't

I think it could in Civ V (though it's a while ago I played it...), but I'm not sure wheter it's possible in VI. I actually think it isn't, but I haven't made certain.

I think it does work that way in VI.

In Civ 6 it looks like if anyone is on the hills (be it a shooter or a target), and no hills or mountains are between them, shots can be fired.

That may have been the case. The AI archers where definitely NOT on a hill, in one case I am pretty sure I was, not sure about the other. Can you see a hill behind a forest? If you cannot then this is a bug.

The AI will hunt down a wounded unit now with it's archers and kill it. I had quite the challenge this weekend, two AIs DoWed me at turn 18 (emperor/quick/small/continents) and my little army of three archers and three warriors was hard pressed not to lose anyone. The well timed barbarian horse pair didn't help either.

It took me many many reloads to weather the ridiculous storm unleashed on me really early in the game. I was Brazil, Spain forward settled me from the northwest, Rome shows up from the northeast, and France stayed out of it, but they where to the south. Four of us on one continent with all capitols within 12-13 hexes from mine. I had to keep retreating to save my units and having their archers shoot me when I thought I was safe was quite frustrating. The UI needs to do a better job showing hills I guess.

I ended up getting a Religion because Spain was nice enough to build a Holy site in their forward city.

Improvements are the biggest problem. They hide hills/forest in most cases and you don't realize it until you cannot shoot something you had planned on. Mousing over every hex to sift through all that help text is a painful way to determine lines of sight.

I'd agree that how improvements are shown on hills or in woods etc should be improved to make it more clear what terrain is there.
