AI can attack my air units!

For the Bombers it is weird, but it is normal for them to be able to attack Helicopters. In theory (i.e. using cheat mode), they should be able to attack Fighters in mid-air as well, but those can only end their turn on Carriers, in airbases or cities anyway, so in practice that situation never occurs.

I'd be curious to see a case where ground troops could attack a bomber stack. That is normal behavior for Helicopters, but Bombers should be protected (unless you accidentally landed on an airstrip and didn't realize it.)

Also, there are ways for fighters to provide air cover:
(1) some scenarios allow fighters to stay aloft for multiple turns. I don't play many scenarios but I know Kobayashi's ZWK had that. it really improves them and makes them more like fighters, imho.
(2) by use of X-packs you can get fighter cover from "free-range" fighters and stealths.
