AI Civ talks smack after liberation

What would be cool is if the liberated AI city became a new militaristic CS instead :)

Yeah i was amused by the results of this too, the only time I every liberated an AI civ. I thought he'd be allied with me and give me his resources, like a city-state would. Instead he refused to ever trade with me. Also, the other AIs all declared war on him, because his power was so low.

oops, beat to it! :)

Liberated about five Roman cities today as to recreate the nice little buffer zone he made between me and the Ottomans. After a few turns he starts canceling deals on me because we are 'too close for comfort', or whatever it is they say. Seems broken to me, you'd think he want to be my best bud after all I did for him, considering I could've just kept all the cities for myself with no problem... Yay for Fobidden Palace.

Ya Gandhi did that to me when I had 1500s Infantry and was concurring Greece who concurred him before I bothered to explore the world. I literally bust a gut laughing for 10 minutes when he called me weak and DoW'd me. He had 2 pikes.

Probably a pride thing. It would be better if they made it so puppet states were actual puppet states, not autonomous regions.

I've found liberating the first city in a beachhead assault is often a great idea. You get open borders with the new civ and the civ you are attacking doesn't have open borders with them and doesn't have war with them. This pushes the enemy out of the territory. It often gives you some breathing room to organize your push forward after a costly assault.
Having open borders with a civ that doesn't share open borders with the one you're at war with is worth a lot. The AI opponent can't attack you, so you can use the other territory to heal, or to set up your artillery for some safe and easy kills. It gets especially fun if you liberate a former capital, which usually has quite large cultural borders.
