I'm playing Deity, Pelago, min landmass, 15 civs, random others.
I'm Greece.
After lagging behind in tech for half the game I managed to do the "Nationalism slingshot" trick (buy Magnetism and ToG and sell Nationalism that I got for free to get the dough back).
Best tech countries were India, Persia, France and Rome.
I maxed research to get Steam and Industrialism in 25 turns (I have few cities and had no Universities and few Libraries back then). I sold them both to all AI as I was afraid they would research them anyway. Meanwhile AI got Communism which I stole. I was sure that I had no chance at electricity so I started a 40 turns to Corporation. AI got Medicine after 5 turns (I stole it). Then they got Electricity after 10 more turns (stole that too).
After that for 24 turns they did not discover anything. I'm one turn to Corporation and Nobody researched anything else yet.
Did that ever happened to you? Sure everybody is in war with everybody but they have a 40% deity bonus for research. With that I could pop a tech every 6 turns with 100% science. The only possibility is that everybody was researching Electricity when it got discovered (every single four of them) and they are all reasearching with 10% or so.
Wait, I just figured that I should investigate an AI city to check that sci rate. But I just started work so that will be tonight.
