With Gathering Storm I decided to put the AI to a test that if it failed would be instant uninstall. Can the AI beat me (an average player at best) head-to-head, domination only on Deity.

The answer is YES, but I had to make him do it.

I played Congo (random)
He played America (random)

Early game, I was in ancient I think still and he was in renaissance. Of course he was WAY ahead of me in everything (don't know how people could ever beat this game on deity). He declared war and quickly took one of my 3 cities. And then he stopped.... A bit later he made peace and gave me the city back!!!

FIRAXIS, WHEN ARE YOU GOING FIX THE AI FROM GIVING TOO MUCH WHEN IT MAKES PEACE???

I can't believe he would give the city back plus some gold too I think, he could have easily made peace and demanded stuff form me! This is still broken.

His declaration of war was the last one he made the whole rest of the game. The game play I tried to do here was let him do what he was going to do. I was not going to declare war and I wasn't going to pursue friendship either. Over time the AI wanted to become friends with me. I agreed. He then allied with me. I agreed. And he kept renewing this alliance the whole game.

The AI built cities everywhere! It is amazing how many resource he gets on deity. He built so many that 2 of them ended up switching over to me because of loyalty. I never got past my 3 cities until 2 switched and gave me 5. The AI did put some military effort into taking his cities back when they were free cities but in both cases it was too little too late. Obviously it lacks the intelligence to send military over BEFORE the city rebels.

I let this game play on all the way until the AI reached the end of both the tech track and the civic track. It was apparent that he had no desire to win the game and would turtle forever. My best optimistic guess here is even though it was his only path to victory, the fact that we were so close friends trumped this goal.

So I declared war on him. I was in the industrial era by then. OMG, did he kick my a$$!!!!! This actually is the ONE SAVING GRACE I am giving this AI, and is the reason I did not finally uninstall this game. He hit me with so many units so fast it was nuts. I had like 10 death robots attacking me in a few turns. He took 2 of my cities in basically one turn. Then he took my capital just as easy and that was it.

Anyway, so far the AI does seem better than R&F. Is it as good as CIV 5 after 2 expansions? Maybe.... I am going to play this game some more, for real this time and see.
