Is it a bug ? I started an epic game with the Spanish as neighbours. At the beginning, they were reasonably poor, as the AI is used to be. But soon, around 1300, they had a 9000 gold treasure. I took a great amount of it against techs, but twenty years later they were at... 29000. In middle age !!!
Is that a bug? Have you already noticed something similar??

There is a known bug that affects GPT deals with other civs. When a civ is receiving GPT from another, the amount is actually doubled. So the C3C economnies are distorted with all this "free" gold being created by the bug. If the extra gold is channelled into research, and the researched techs traded for more GPT, well, you can see how this would have a snowball effect.

This might be what's happening in your game, If you catch it early and figure out where your rival is getting the GPT from, you might be able to do something about it.

Personally, I'm starting to think this GPT bug is a game-breaker :(

Even with the GPT bug, 29000 is an insane amount for an AI civ... could you post a savegame or a screenshot so we can try to figure this out ?
And did they do with that pile of cash anyway ?

I've experienced this as well. All AI civs were about the same... broke or nearly broke. But the Persians had 36,000 gold! It is rare to see a rich civ... let alone a fabulously rich civ.

Sorry about the double post... can't seem to delete this thing.

I also saw the Egyptians in my game with 36,000 gold. They were a powerful civ in this game, but to have that much gold seemed impossible.

Egyptians in my game had 55,000 last time I checked. I did mod my game to reduce corruption though, so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. I'm not making that much though, and I think if it was because of the mod I would benefit too.

OMG, I just spent the weekend playing a bunch of scenarios and had loads of fun but was a bit confused by this... Maybe this is Firaxis method of extending the playability of the game - once they fix this bug, it will be a whole new game again!

Well, are we SURE it's a bug? I only suggested the GPT bug as a possibility, I can't say for certain.

But I had a similar thing in one of my games, though not as extreme. Now I'm wondering if it's a combined effect of the accumulation of GPT agreements and a scientific golden age (which in theory would allow the AI to divert more commerce to taxes.)

IN any case, it seems like something is functioning not quite as expected.

I think the GPT-bug is only increasing the extend of richness. In all my games in vanilla civ or PTW, there were always 1-3 civs which were rather rich, getting gold from the poorer ones trading them techs.
The change since Conquests is the amount of gold they accumulate.Instead of sums beetween 1000-5000 they now gain amounts of 10000+, which I think is the result of this bug.

England in my game had 85,000 gold but that is because I give her alot of techs and she sold them to the other civs for about 150 to 200 GPT so she got rich fast. But I still had more gold.;)

Just to report, I tried an explot but it won't work.

I noticed I can trade fifty gold for fifty gold, lump sum. So I thought, if I trade 10 gpt for 10 gpt, I'll actually get twenty while only losing ten, so I'll gain 10 gpt! (Course so would the AI.)

But alas, the AI "would surely never accept such a trade". :)

:lol::lol:

It's gotta be the GPT bug. In my current epic game, one of the AI civ's has 113,000 gold.

Pity they don't know how to use it properly!

Cheers
