The AI isnt building any ships or embarking a single unit, even on Archipelago maps.

Playing as England is so unbelievably OP and even more lonely out in the seas :(

Sailing over to a coastal AI city and capturing it is childsplay, they dont do anything to defend themselves with navy, they dont build any ships.

If theres a single tile peninsula, the AI will try to march its units straight through it. It will never embark them and sail around.

This is pretty horrible. In Civ IV, the AI usually circumnavigated the globe with a workboat, built strong navies and would invade your islands with huge fleets and stacks of transports with frigates.

None of that happens anymore in Civ V!

Actually if you read one AAR (forgot the link) And look at the review videos its clearly visible of the AI having a large navy and using the embarkment, it could either be not having the technology or they dont feel they need/want a navy yet. What difficulty setting are you on?

Why do people not post the difficulty they're on when they post stuff like this? If i'm on settler difficulty, and I see this, not a big deal...but if I'm on King or Emperor or something, kind of a big AI problem.

Im playing on Prince. Even in Gregs livesteam video at Immortal, Napoleon didnt embark any units to get past his defenses.

The AI just embarked around my units in my game today and landed them 1 tile away from my city. Not sure why they're not doing it in your game. This was on prince difficulty.

Try playing against England. See if she'll join you out there on the ocean. She likely has the highest naval score in her programming.

On Emperor, the AI took half their units to fight my bottleneck city, and brought the warriors around by sea. They cut off all reinforcements, and archer-bombarded my city to dust :( . They can get quite tricky.

In my game Japan was embarking en-route to the city state they had declared war on. Still haven't see a Trireme/Caravel/etc. yet though, other than from the barbs.

Consider this: if you order your unit to move to a location and the fastest route is by sea, it automatically embarks and disembarks your unit along the way. If the ZOC of enemy land units makes a sea route faster than land, it takes the sea route. Some examples of AI's embarking/disembarking are probably due to this pathfinding.

There's probably some code that can 'force' the AI to prioritize the sea route if following a particular tactic, too.

I just played a game where I embarked a massive flotilla to attack Japan with a small escort navy. Let's just say I had to reload the game. Japan had a massive fleet of caravels that swarmed my embarked units. I lost half my army and they just kept coming. This was on Warlord.

Im playing on Prince. Even in Gregs livesteam video at Immortal, Napoleon didnt embark any units to get past his defenses.

*sigh*

It was explained a million times that the AI had already tried that and failed due to Gregs bombard/chop strat.
