AI not contributing to aid requests anymore?

I've noticed the AI doing what I've always been doing - making one large contribution right at the very end of the aid request. It's cool that the AI's tackling it in a more strategic way (wait til the very end, figure out what you need to pay to snipe the 1st place, pay it all at once right then without worrying about having overpaid) but it does make it painfully clear how the aid requests aren't a very involved process.

I've only played one game since the April patch and witnessed one Aid Emergency, where all the participating AIs were contributing nothing, but when the final turns approached, Trajan started to pump out projects and in only a few last turns his contribution went from 0 to 1600, in competition with me. Maybe they've become more rational and pragmatic about this?

I am in a middle of my first game since April patch, and I noticed just the same in the two aid requests we had so far: zero contribution from all AI.

This is the first time, they usually spammed aid projects in my previous games (and I have never, ever, seen a last turn sniping since I played, that's a few years now!).

I don't know if it will change in the next aid requests but it definitely seems to start differently from pre-April patch (but maybe also AI is smarter now and none have 'decided' to go for a diplo victory?)

So you say the AIs have really finally have stopped their inefficient habit of GPT gifting soon before the competition curtain falls?

Since I couldn't believe that I loaded both the old saves I posted in my bug thread about this behaviour ( https://forums.civfanatics.com/thre...oon-ending-disaster-relief-competions.658431/ ) and guess what? Even in that saves this wasteful behaviour no longer triggers, when I end the turn (those were pretty extreme case of the AIs gifting me GPT right in the moment the competition was about to end).

Call me amazed :goodjob:

Yeah, I had two aid requesting targeting me, where they gave a grand total of 0 gold. I figured it was the dirty capitalism mod bugging it out, because they seem to have no money when this mod is enabled. Probably due to their inability to improve resources.

I haven't had a chance to play a game, what with it crashing a few turns into anything I try... but I'm curious to see if this is the case. I really hope so because the way the ai doggedly contributes to every emergency no matter how vainly is not helping it.

Just like real life, hehe.

AI is just too economically poor compared to the human player. Seeing an AI invest 200 gold into an aid request, when you are earning 500+ gpt already is silly. I generally feel like the AI's gpt is not that great after the patch. Perhaps something that's just unbalanced in the momopoly & commerzilation mode?

I had two aid requests (on someone else, not me) in my last game and none of the AIs gave anything the whole time. I just gave 100 to the target around halfway through and won.

Same behavior here. Yet another new bug, I guess, probably due (again?) to bad AI prioritization. Devs need to do more testing and better QA, every patch seems to bring more obvious bugs. I guess they aren't geared to issuing new "fixes" every month?

Even if the AI might be now sometimes too reluctant to invest in competitions or they sometimes just lack the founds for meaningful contributions for whatever reasons, I consider it as a huge improvement that they no longer waste their gold by GPT gifts close to the end of a competition. I'm convinced that it will be in sum a net gain for them.

Mmmm... well, I invested a full one gold halfway through the aid competition and I'm still ahead, let's see tomorrow if I win it with this insane investment... honestly before the patch, the AI ran the aid projects but this seems to have stopped altogether. I don't see any improvement here, just another broken mechanic, but maybe I'm missing something?

The improvement is that the AI has stopped the highly inefficient GpT-gifting - see the link in my first post to get an impression. The problem was that -beside doing projects- their way to participate in aid contests was mainly gifting GpT. Which is (unless done at the very beginning) a poor way of doing so, as a part of your 30-turn-payment will inevitably be wasted by not counting for the contest. In the linked example the AI would even GpT-gift 1 turn before the contest end, equaling 29 turns of GpT lost. That seems to have stopped now, which I consider a gain.
I haven't seen enough of them to jugde their behaviour in regard to doing projects or lump sum gifting, but even if they have become more cautious/worse here, you still have the improvement I described in the previous paragraph (as the AI can spend the saved gold elsewhere)

I understand. But if I could win a diplo victory by spending 1 gold for every aid request (and you get quite a few if you play marathon/huge as I do) then I'd consider this a severe regression. Yet to be confirmed though.

Third aid request, third time all AI's give absolutely nothing and ran no aid projects either. I gave just one gold (1 gold!) in the middle of the aid period and just won 2 diplo points without any further action from AI's until the period elapsed.

Definitely buggy here.

I am on Marathon / huge map / Deity / SS / M&C / H&L / Barbs modes.

Never was the case pre April patch (same settings), and makes winning diplo victory ridiculously easy (and plainly ridiculous)

Second post-April patch standard size speed game, no modes, there were 2 Aid Emergencies: one with zero participation from any of the AI, I won with 1 gold invested; but the second one was more lively, with second place AI investing 2000 via projects, third place had 600 of investments, and a couple more AIs with less.

AI definitely stopped this gifting gpt nonsense, only projects now, if any, good for them!

The problem is 2 DV points, awarded for winning such emergencies, which are guaranteed to be picked up by the player, if the player can be bothered at all, AI has no hope to get them.
These DV points should go from Aid Emergencies. Everything you get from active participation should only be a positive diplo modifier with the target, such reward would be good enough. Getting 2 DV points is way way too much.

I would sooner award DV points for flipping another AIs city via Loyalty, that has more to do with diplomacy: it takes some of it to convince foreign population to become your citizens and actually demonstrate some soft power. Loyalty flipping AIs cities at least involves some targeted efforts and dedication from the player, and the reward would feel more earned, as opposed to this zero effort thing with 'Oh, by the way you've won a Diplomatic Victory, tell us how do you feel, are you proud?' bs.

I think the M&C mod breaks it even more.

Check how much income the AI has these days. Seems much lower.
