Anyone else noticing AI acting passively in multiplayer games ? No pacts, less agressive, always late with the wonders ( even on emperor), .. in short.. placeholders?

Is this as intended an was this the case in civ 4 ?

Yeah, I tried to play a coop game against a bunch of computers with my friend. The AI didn't do anything at all except declare war on some city states.

It wasn't the case in Civ IV.

But yeah, sadly it looks like currently the only role of the AI is to keep the seat warm till a human player takes it over, which is disappointing. Many people like to play in teams online against AI, so hopefully they'll add the option to have a comparable AI experience to single player in a patch.

the role of the AI is to make peace treaties in the middle of your always war teamers...

once you get an AI on each team it's game over

Even MOST people like to play civ vs AI in singleplayer and multiplayer.
Its just not easy to setup a decent multiplayer game that can play till the end with the same peeps. Unless you got a lot of friends who are willing to play and go all the way. And I got only 2 of those (how sad?) and civilization with just 3 civs is boring imo.

So why didn't they include the proper options ? Corporate greed as usual ? New devs who have no clue whats going on ? Where is the Sid luvin ?

I can tell you, it was the case in Civ 4 vanilla. The AI never declared wars on each other. That was somewhat fixed in BtS though.

Well, I was talking about Civ IV in terms of Civ IV + Expansions. Also, it must have been fixed by at least Warlords in Civ IV, because I played extensively starting with Warlords and then BTS and the problem did not exist. In fact, Civ IV even had an Aggressive AI option if you wanted the AI to declare war more.

The difference, though, and what the OP is complaining about, is that the Civ V AI acts completely gimped in multiplayer as compared to singleplayer. The Civ IV AI, whatever its problems, at least acted the same in multiplayer as it did in singleplayer.

Ignoring war declaration all together, Civ V multiplayer AI doesn't even contact you (let alone other AI). The Civ IV AI (vanilla or expansions) in multi or single never had a problem contacting/fighting with you. So this problem did not, in fact, exist in Civ IV.

I am having same problems playing regularly with 2 of my friends against the AI, this is just sad...

haha i had a game like this last night...The AI doesn't seem to do ANYTHING in MP, it's really ridiculous. By 100 AD Alexander still had his 1 capital city....

Its not like they don't do ANYTHING.. they do some.. but not (inter)active enough=boring and to easy=boring, defintely not the same as single player.

I 'm playing a huge map, 12 civs in single player atm.
It is 400+AD and England still only has London as its only city with very few improvements. But some barbarian camps in the area.
The AI seems to have some problems with defeating those barbarian camps, especially if there are multiple in the area.

In my game the AI expanded, each AI had like 3 cities by Medieval age. Playing on Quick

Nobody said the AI wouldn't expand, they even engage in war sometimes. Firaxis just needs to make the AI involved in the game ,j just as in singleplayer, that is all we are saying.

You have to set random personalities on and they'll act like normal AI from single player. I Just had a game where washington declared war on me and my friend mid game with minutemen and took out my friend. ^^ No random personalities = place holder

But did they ever contact you and ask to trade and stuff?

If this is true, though, at least it makes MP games with AI somewhat playable until they better fix it with a patch. Thanks!

Sadly no, but I contacted them often as a substitute and it acts the same, such as pacts of secrecy trades ect. just requires a bit more effort.

Sounds fuzzy but, i mentioned that the AI is smarter when you load the Game in Multiplayer. When we started one vs 2 Godlike AIs, we easily captured Songhais Capital. He had only had mass Workers. oO
Then i got an Error and we loaded, after some Turns now Askiya pushed his military so had, it was a hard fight now but atleast we won. Later we got killed brutaly by the Russian AI, with almost no Chance.

We now only start the game, leave and load the Initial Autosave. It feels better for me.

Setting AI to random personalities does fix the place-holder issue in MP games.

Team them amongst themselves to make it even mode challenging.

Thanks for that usefull tip.

Me and my friend will start up a game now to try them out with random personalities.. I really hope you are right

actually, the AI does expand but very weak militarily and on the passive side (but declares war on city states, avoids against others - maybe because its 2vs2vs1vs1)

In any case, Random Personalities seems to fix some aspects but the AI is still worse than the SP one. Should have the option to up their difficulty to give them production bonuses.

I just want them to contact me similar to how they do in single-player. Makes me feel like I'm actually playing a game and am not alone on the map.
