Well I've played every version of civ 3 & I don't ever recall seeing an AI army! I have also been playing a ww2 scenario & edited the leaders so they only produce armies. I unchecked the hurry production icon. Well I have seen the AI with leaders but no army. So what gives do they ever build army's or what. Any feedback would be appreciated!

I think I might have seen a leader in an epic game...once.

I don't believe they use them correctly at least up to Monarch. On the Rise of Rome scenario, I always end up coming across an army with one unit in it...

I've seen armies lots of times. Normally in the industrial age from a militaristic AI. The AI will use their GL's for wonders first, so if there are any available, that's their first choice and until the industrial age, there's usually a wonder available. Once the industrial age hits (and I grab all those wonders), when the AI gets a GL, they normally build a cavalry army. The problem is they usually only load it with 1 or 2 units (what a waste). I have yet to see the AI build a Military Academy or Pentagon, so it's probably the reason why the don't have many armies. I haven't played a lot of C3C with the improved armies, so hopefully they've gotten smarter about using them in that expansion pack.

Ah I guess that could be why I don't see them since if I'm fighting in the industrial age I expect to be in a position where I chose the war or have the means to destroy any attack and kill any leaders before they can be used... It would certainly be interesting to see more AI armies as it would make it a lot harder for human players... Actually maybe they shouldn't be able to use armies.

I have seen a much earlier army, with a Jag Warrior, a Horseman, and Knight in it.

Forgot. I remember it was a OCC... I think it was Monarch.

In Vanilla Civ 3 and PTW the AI builds armies to some extent. There's a bug in Conquests, though, and the AI won't use MGL's to build armies.

Thats nice considering that you can't use MGLs to rush build wonders after some of the conquest patches...

The bug still exists in Conquests 1.22. The AI uses MGLs for rushing less important things instead of making armies - now THIS would make AI attacks at least a bit more dangerous!!!

This should be fixed with high priority - with the sub bug, of course, being no.1 :)

In one of my very first games of Civ I had to face a couple of Armies of Samauri's, but I haven't seen many in the 2 and a half years since then.

I've never had an AI use an army against me, but I've seen two AI armies go head-to-head.

Army against army combat must be pretty strange as the advantages of an army is no longer apparent. Would be interesting to see how the RNG works between two armies with the same type of units.

I've seen alot of armies in the games that I have played. (vannila though) Most of my games tend to drag well into the modern age though, maybe that has somthing to do with it. In the game Im playing right now, China has one or two of them.
