AI Triremes never sink...

How do like those AI triremes that can't sink? So when you are on a continent 10 ocean squares away, they can get to you but without galleons, there's no way you can get them back. So, has anyone ever seen a player trireme SURVIVE being in a sea or ocean square at the end of their turn? I have NEVER survived this and so I stopped trying.

maybe they built the lighthouse, or got astronomy/navigation... I have never seen AI triremes traverse oceans except when they got lighthouse (applied to me too when I get it) or the appropriate tech

if your galleys always sink when they end their turn outside a coastal tile then you are unlucky. The manual is very clear about this: there's a chance your ship will sink on ocean/sea squares without lighthouse. That means it won't happen always and there's a small chance you can cross a large body of water safely.
Also, according to the manual, this chance is proportional to the quality of your ship: the galley will sink more frequently than a caravel.

No, as far as I know, AI Trireme DO NOT SINK.
I caught three of them in the middle of an ocean square (I mean OCEAN, not coastal nor sea), spending a whole turn in deep water.
I was the one having the Lighthouse and Magellan Expedition, so it's not because of the wonders. And I had see often previously trireme sailing in the sea (not mine).
Wanted to take a printscreen, and this made my computer reboot :(
But in fact, AI seems to cheat, in fact, about the sinking trireme (a memory from Civ 2 and Civ 1 ? :) )

Yes, I agree with Akka. I've seen AI galleys in ocean squares all the time. I like to play tiny map with islands, but the AI keeps cheating, being able to cross oceans with galleys, giving them a big advantage.

I never had a trireme not sink outside of the close coastal water. Except, once I built the Great Lighthouse, I was able to sail deep ocean turn after turn in my triremes with no problem. What I hate is when my loaded Galleon is sunk by an enemy trireme.

Completely agree. Everytime my trireme entered an ocean square, it sunk in the next turn.

What I hate is when my loaded Galleon is sunk by an enemy trireme.

That's a problem as well. AI's triremes seem to be loaded with hardest corsars ever, they usually sink my privateers or even frigates without much effort.

If AI triremes never sink when that doesn't matter anyway (e.g. they usually stay in coasts), I wouldn't care. But this is annoying: the Egypians went from Chili to New Guinea! I am Australia so to speak, so it's actually quite annoying. I shouldn't have met that chick in this stage!

They do have the Great Lighthouse, but they do not have caravels or higher. And this is on the huge map so it must have taken more then 15 turns!!

Also what Crazy_Vasey says is not good. But that can be compensated through a patch.

Ya AI very rarely losses Tiremes if ever. Lookls just like the previous civ games.... While it isn't a huge bug it definantly effects game play since civilizations across continents end up meeting eachother and trading when they shouldn't be able to. Although I havn't been in a war where tiremes played a big role I'm sure it would be very frustrating if the AI kept shipping offensive units over seas.

No idea why this still hasn't been fixed....

I must also say. I have designed a few maps that I play, and there is no way to cross the ocean, but here the AI comes with its Galley. There must be something to allow them.
