As the title says, the AI will not accept gifts of strategic resources, luxuries, or coins, even when they are badly needed, but will accept them in a "trade" for 1 coin when I click "what would it take?" Happens with multiple civs, and I think happens more when civs are angry at me. (Maybe they are trying to "keep" their modifier toward me as unfriendly with the intention of going to war in the near future?) Example Screenshot: I offered to give Harald 100 coins as a gift (to improve our relationship, as he had several hundred grievances against me, causing the whole world to hate me for inflicting grievances). He refused, but was willing to accept 200 coins as a gift. Another time I offered to trade Pachacuti 15 horses, but he refused. He would accept them for 1 coin, or he would accept 16+ horses as a gift. Pachacuti had only 2 horses at the time, so his stock was not full. Harald likewise would not accept 4 different luxuries at once that he did not have as a gift, but was willing to trade 1 coin for them.

Additionally, the AI will readily go to war with just about anyone in a joint war or a "join ongoing war" for 1 coin, but not for free, even if they dislike me and like the person that I want them to go to war with. Harald, with 600+ grievances against me, will readily go to war with Kupe, who he is friendly with, but for one coin.

Interesting. Didn't notice that weird gift-refusal behaviour yet, but probably only because I never tried gifting something to angry AIs ;) Oddly, they accepts such gold "gifts", if they demand them...but of course only GpT then, for whatever reason :crazyeye:

I can confirm the join-war-for-1-Gold-thing; it is fairly widespread - and it is not easy to grasp why they behave often that way, as sometimes AIs demand resonable prices in form of vast GpT compensationf for joining wars. However, their is no pattern emerging (for me at least) what influences this:

It's not merely "join-war-for-1-Gold". You can actually get the AI to join the war and pay for it, as long as you pay one gold. In the attached save, if [in the Make Deal screen] I ask (my ally) Hungary to join the formal war against England,

"What would it take?" => "I'm not willing to trade that."
If I put 1 gold in My Offer, they are "happy to accept".
If I additionally put up to 21 gold in Their Offer, they are still "happy to accept". Thus paying 20 gold net to join.

So "What would it take" is broken. (Or something is.)
