So I just need to wait until people tech up a bit? Most civs have 3+ cities and at least Obsidian soldiers. I've fought off some trained dogs but that's it.
Yeah, its easy as it takes time to make units.

There's a warning in option's pop-up that AI fares poorly with this on.
i have surrounded ai capitol.... situation is like Russia vs Kiev
i have many cities but his last city is crazy
i have 300 levitan artillery pounding it every turn but still it has like 200 defenders
and all my attacking troops die

Advice? Don't camp too close to cities you're attacking in later ages. The damage city defenses can do is quite overwhelming.

Might wish to take this up with Flabbert on the Discord server.
From my game with the latest SVN "Immortal" difficulty. It would appear Abraham LIncoln is waaay too trusting of me here. I'd already destroyed one civ in the prehistoric era in this game after they dumbly thought they could declare war on me, they were not ready for my Master Hunter who almost singlehandedly cut a swathe through all his units in the field and then i just sieged out the only Iroquis city. However leaving a city completely undefended and so distant from the rest of his land next to an extremely valuable resource has to be a new low in AI stupidity for me. I normally wait for an AI to declare war or I've filled all available land and I can't expand further, but there's no way I'm ignoring bait like this! Lincoln apparently has a military over 5 times mine but none of it was spared defending this city!
