AK-02 american chopper

My proposed marble spot while indeed in a far worse spot then the current one is but the reason was so we wouldnt waste 6 decent tiles between the marble city and the clam city .

New dot map :

Some notes after lookin at the save :

Make sure you DONT open borders with De Gaule , hes bound to get dogpiled.

In case we want MC we have to research pottery first , for CoL its writing.
MC gives us extra production and a happy face while CoL gives us courthhouses.

My vote goes to MC.

Perhaps we build the Oracle in washington anyway?
I dont see much reason to split up our GPP in 2 city's .

Well, as I said before work was eating me alive last friday, and I need to put in some time this afternoon as well, so I have about an hour, two at the absolute most, to play (or I play in about 8 hours, late tonight).

Any objections to me playing now? Do we want to wait on a full consensus for the oracle before I play my turns?

MC from the Oracle it is.

Turn 57
- Switched to pottery (5 turns) to allow us to actually get MC from the Oracle ;)
- Switched the build in New York to a barracks - CR I promotions will come in handy for the planned axe rush, and Washington can build it's worker AND the oracle faster than NY can build just the Oracle.

Turn 58
- worker done in Wash, start oracle
- did some MM in Wash to stop growth and maximize hammers. Had two workers build a mine on a grass hill to up the hammers even more.

Also saw this guy, but knew I couldn't really do anything about it (yet):

Turn 59 IBT
Lizzy switches to Buddhism.

Turn 61
- Stonehenge was built IBT

Spoiler :

- Started research on Writing

Turn 64
Spoiler :

Yes, I picked Metal Casting :p

- Boston finishes it's monument and I start an axeman (to quick-build from the chop about to come in)
- NY finishes barracks and starts an axeman
- Wash has barracks due in 1 turn, axeman in the queue

Turn 65
Got an event:
Spoiler :

I chose the first option, seeing as how we're planning to DoW him soon.

- Boston grows to size 2. Mine finishes near boston, chop finishes the axe, barracks is due in 9.

Turn 66
- NY borders pop, we gain back some territory from Joao

Turn 68
We get:
Spoiler :

And immediately:

I agree to it, so we can scout him out a bit before making our move. Intelligence is good, right?

- Start research on AH, to hook up the pigs near boston when the borders pop (about the same time AH will finish)

Turn 70
- Boston finishes barracks early due to a chop

Turn 71
- worker hooks up deer 2W of NY

DeGaulle says hi:

I say hell no.

So here's our current status:

Save is attached, I figured this was a good place to stop. Our SoD is well on the way to being a huge menacing force, we're churning out axes like mad. I wanted to stop here because:
- Not sure how we want to pursue the rush: one big push, or DoW-capture/raze-peace, DoW-capture/raze-peace? If it's the latter we can probably declare in 1-2 turns. If not we need a bit more time, and I didn't want to idle about if we do want to go ahead and attack.
- There's ANOTHER settler of his (and he already has 5 cities) on it's way out. I'm thinking we should DoW to intercept it, but didn't want to make that move if it was too early.
- Do we need to build ourselves some settlers, or are we fully focused on the axe rush and acquiring territory through conquest?
- Do we want to build forges for the extra hammers and happy, or not waste the time (4 turns Wash, 6 turns NY)?

PS - the worker 1W of boston I had planned to build a road to the pigs, pasture that, and then build a farm on the grassland next to the city (was a forest I chopped). I think I started a farm first, instead of the road - oops.

I like the idea of rushing J instead of building settlers. J's city placement may not appear optimal but what the heck, its saving us settlers. If we're going to rush we rush early.
Maybe wait a few more turns for a couple more axes to join the four in The Big Apple but then it's war; Oporto followed by Lisbao; followed by mopping up. We'll lose friends and our economy will go down the pan short term but its probably our best chance of starting with a decent size empire.

Saving us from building settlers would be nice, but WOW are those TERRIBLE spots that Joao has!

This is what I would like to do:

Civ4ScreenShot0033.jpg

I very, very rarely raze anything.......but I would take a torch to almost his entire empire. He just misses several resources and produces crippling amounts of overlap.

Up to you guys.

I'd also keep building axes now. Forges can wait until after the first DoW.

If we do a two-phase war, I think that burning Oporto, killing the Settler, and capturing Lisbon would be an excellent first objective.

All he's got are archers. We must assume that he has no copper. Additionally, he either has no Iron, or has not teched IW. If we declare early and capture his capital, it'll make it much harder for him to tech IW -- if he even has any Iron, that is.

I vote for declaring early, with maybe 8 Axes. That should allow us to make a plow straight through to Lisbon without needing more reinforcements or too much resting.

Having had another look at the save I think I'd keep Oporto. Its a naff site but a better location would have to wait on Nottingham being razed. If we raze Oporto without replacing it England might (and probably would) send another settler into the middle of our dotmap. I agree about razing Guimares and barb city and putting a new city in between.

I accept that keeping Oporto might be a necessary evil.

Nice progress and gj on getting the axes going and mapping out Joao .

Proposed city's to keep/raze.

Overal:
+He only has archers so far which is great news!
+Not many defenders
-bad locations!
-he has 3 pleased AI's already we gotta kill him off in 1 time.

Im pretty sure he settled on the hill on the same spot as we would have for the clam + deer city but other then that city and his capital all the others are junk.

The settler is tempting for the free worker but he will probebly settle east of washington and wont be hard to capture , its not really worth it imo to spoil our surprise effect with 4/5 axes and have him whipping archers all over.

I would wait for about 8 axes and get oporto and lisbon first (cross your fingers that we dont get stuck with the partisans this game)
if we take those the rest should be easy.

I would wait with capturing Coimbra untill we have a settler ready , im sure Elizabeth will jump right on the spot if we raze it and dont grab the lands ourself.

Not that Elizabeth is a big risk , she's only pleased with Sitting Bull and is usually a walkover if we decide to take her out at some later time.

We're pretty much agreed on our war strategy for J except for Oporto. Once Washington's built another couple of axes it can churn out settlers almost as fast as we can raze cities so that shouldn't be a problem. Tech-wise do we go for IW or CoL next? We can probably subsidise research short term from plundering Portugal.

My vote would be to raze Oporto and drop a settler of our own somewhere between Lisbon and Nottingham before Lizzy can fill the gap.

The problem is that, as far as I can tell, there isn't a spot between Lisbon and Nottingham that's any better than Oporto.

I missed the discussion about Oporto , thats what u get for hitting reply before looking at the save :)
We will indeed lose the spot if we raze it .
It has 10 tiles overlap, 6 with NY including 2 useless mountains and 4 with Lisbon .
Meaning we got 48 tiles workable split over 3 city's so it wouldnt be a bad idea to keep it after all .
Im fine either way.

Let's keep it movin' movin' :) :D

Started a couple of spears in NY and Wash but they'll be a couple of turns to build and a few more to move (1 forNY, 3 for Wash).

Any thoughts?

hehe always build a spear before the attack, even if its just as a medic, but now it´s too late. Go straight towards Oporto, than lisbon with this stack, reinforcements can mop up Coimbra.

With grassland every where and enough deer-food, I vote for keeping all cities this time, you lose too much time and hammers on emperor if You want a perfect dot-map.

I agree on Col as next research, maybe a pair of scientists somewhere to speed it up and get some GPP?

And please whip those forges ASAP, the anger is countered with extra happy from silver and we´ll get those shields back in no time.

Lurkers question:

What map settings gives this start with all the deer and forests? It looks great.
