AK-02 american chopper

The horse is in Coimbra , capture?? oporto then destroy the roads leading to coimbra so those chariots wont bother us any more .

In all likelihood, Joao has ONE chariot. Pump out a spear, pillage a road and the horse pasture or just capture the city with the horses, problem solved :)

Played a few more turns. Time for some decisions.

Having had my resolve stiffened ( 'pull yourself together you snivelling wimp' ) and my fears allayed :D I resumed the fray.

Heading for Oporto. Get there in 975bc:
ak2a60000.jpg

ak2a70000.jpg

Only four archers. Lose first three axes at 20%, kill an archer at 20% then mop up at 90%. Keep the city.

Got a couple of spears as well but not a chariot was in sight!

In 975bc we meet our first Great Person, St Paul the Prophet.

ak2a80000.jpg

Declined politely.

Whipped a couple of forges in NY and Washington. Boston is still growing.

Stack in Oporto is now healed (3*CR2axe, 2*CR1axe, C1 Spear). Oporto pops borders next round.

Where next? Five axes almost certainly won't be enough for Lisbon though we could try it I suppose. Five axes might be enough for Coimbra however but then we get into a debate about keep or raze. Having just whipped forges its going to take Wash and NY some turns to grow and reach decent production again. Its worth getting the forges because I suspect this won't be a quick war, and now is as good (or bad) a time to build them as any.

We're about to run out of our war loot. Break even point (before Oporto comes out of turmoil) is 20% research. Still a long way from CoL. Great Prophet will bulb meditation (need med and mono before getting theo), or initiate a golden age or settle as a specialist for 2H/5G. I'd settle him myself.

Lisbon has walls up , I would wait for about 10-12 axes and go in .
Settling the GP seems like our best option.
We can get OB with Isabella , Sitting Bull and Willem all other civs are at least cautious to them.
Next player pls pillage the road 1S of oporto , Joao can still make chariots.

No need to pillage the road. When borders pop next round the road will automatically be in our territory.

Hi all. RL caught up with me. Will catch up later tonight and make some inane comments tomorrow night.

Forgive any ranting, I'm feeling :old:. The good news is we're number one in score (how the the hell did we manage that on emperor?) :salute: to the previous players.

I buy into keeping Oporto for the spice (although I can't seem to locate any worm sign?) & Coimbra for the horses. Lisbon has sheep we'll want those later.

T79 - drop research to 70% (-7), move the healthy axes towards Coimbra as we have no shot at a healthy economy and Lisbon. I think we can gloriously ignore WFYBTA in this game. Almost everyone will eventually hate us anyway for declaring on their friends.

T80 - bad note taking

T81 - 4 axes and a spear take on 2 archers and a chariot at Coimbra. Bad odds? yes, but worth the risk as reinforcements are incoming. Axe dies. ditto. ditto. Starting to feel really idiotic. WTH. Go for it. Axe wins. Spear wins. Settle the GP (yes I am a dumbass). Boston starts a lib (with no coin in spitting distance and spitting distance is big here in Pennsyltucky, I'm thinking SE with all the deer.

T82 - axe kills archer in Coimbra. Spear kills chariot. We now own Coimbra and horses. Whip monument in Oporto (shoulda done that last turn). Now I really go psychotic. Trade MC to Willem for Alpha and Mediation. Stop. De Gaulle is willing to give up IW, Sailing and Archery for MC. Should I take it? Pause for feedback, will resume in 24 hours.

EDIT: this screenie shows just how far south Joao got with his REXing and reinforce the decision we made to hit him now.

Civ4ScreenShot0007.JPG

EDIT: this one illustrates, just how bad Joao's city placement is/was and shows that I want to keep Lisbon and raze others.

Civ4ScreenShot0008.JPG

EDIT: I really f'd up with that trade to De Gaulle, didn't I? I forgot he was everyone's worst enemy. Help me Spock (runs away looking for a female in green skin paint and other exotic features)!

Worst case is -1 for trading with worst enemy which as roughly comparable with -1 for dow on J 'you dumped on our best friend' so its not a huge deal.

"Willem, old financial mermaid, You want pretech for colossus? Sure, here You go!"

"De Gaulle, industrious wonder&war nerd, You need to know the secret how to build forges? Of course, there You have it...
...What, nobody likes You? Ahh, no problem, ´cause we do!"

"What, you wanna give us something for that knowledge? No, no, isnt necessary...
...no really, get away with it...
...ok, yes, we take your worthless crap, now bugger of!"

----------------------

I would not have traded away MC in the first place. We made great effort to get it early, so why throwing it into the AI-face on turn 80? I blame You when they cross our borders with Xbows on turn 100 :)
Alpha doesn´t help our war nor our economy, we would have gotten it with CoL anyway. Maybe for the spies?

Now that we broke our MC monopoly may aswell get what´s available..?

I have to agree with wenz , if it would have been IW and maths , or currency or something diffrend story but these techs are kinda crappy and dont do anything for us atm.
Now that we lost our monopoly we might as well trade it away , I wouldnt mind trading with De Gaulle if we get a nice deal , -1 for trading isnt as bad as having 5 civs asking you to cancel agreements with him.
I just hope it doesnt get into Joao's hands with him ending up getting machinery ...

Its a basic principle of tech-trading that once the monopoly is broken you trade the tech as widely as possible (unless playing with no tech brokering) to stop the AI trading your tech among themselves.

I don't think I'd have traded MC without substantial benefits: aphabet and IW is kind of ok. Anyone trading maths yet?

Point taken, no excuses sirs. My head is bloodied and bowed.

Since I've been such a dumbass about trading, how does everyone feel about ignoring WFYABTA and taking everything they'll give us? I'll resume mucking up the game later tonight.

I have to look at math. I hope I woulda traded for it if it was on the broad.

Lurker Commenting ...

i would have razed Oporto and settled 1SE

and maybe move Admirals rest one N and/or settle a city 4 or 5 W of Lisbon

I resume. Do the deal since, I've messed up with MC.

Math is not yet researched. Stick with COL.

turn 84 I trade med and writing to Izzy for mon. Also get a cease fire with Joao.

Apologize for poor note taking. I started ToA in Washington on turn 86. sometime later, we get it. For the remainder of the set, the offspring drive me nuts while I try to make a decent log. I fail. IIRC, I started a bastard SE and sent troops towards Joao.

I feel like this is the lamest set I've played in a long time. Will do better next round. Shadzy, please clean up my mess.

Just took a look at the save and have some questions and observations.

1) Diplomatic: We are in a very bad place here , I dont understand why we dont have OB yet (we even have ToA!) , we really need the + modifiers.
Isabella/Victoria + SB + Willem where safe at the last turnset , after this turnset however I would go for Victoria + SB + Willem for OB.

2) Why end the war with Joao ?
Where we in any danger of losing a important city?
The biggest problem here is if we redeclare we will get another -1 with Willem , SB and Isabella ...

3) Tech path : We have marble and want to kill Joao , we need construction and literature ASAP

4) score leader , production leader and we even are working quite a few scientists , tech looks ok for now but I fear Willem will start to run away.
Looks very good here.

5) We got Iron right in Washington :woohoo: , we just need a road , its already mined.

6) We got stuck with Coimbra , we got huge overlap and still those 6 wasted tiles east of Washington , I guess we have to live with it.

I took the liberty of moving our spy from NY to Lisbon since its my turnset anyway and it only has 2 archers , a sword and a settler in it , it has 60% culture already though.

Options :

1) Build/whip some swords and go :hammer: Joao, we already have higher power then him and very good production so this should be over fast.
2) Mass a army and attack De Gaulle , noone likes him , hes close and he has the pyramids , still we have no clue how big his army is and we are very far away from having enough EP's to know this.
3) Stay peacefull .

I would definatly go for 1 , we need more land !

Need opinions before I play.

Like I said, this is my worst set that I recall. My children were having issues and i was distracted.

by keeping it going he keeps building military. by doing a cease fire, we get to declare when we're ready. we needed a little recovery, IIRC having around only 5 axes to attack with.

Tech path : We have marble and want to kill Joao , we need construction and literature ASAP
I bailed on that so as not to delay the game. My bad.

We got Iron right in Washington , we just need a road , its already mined.
I'm not totally stupid ;)

think of it as we now have horses. plan from there.

build another spy or 2 and run them thru. after we finish joao, we can redirect the EPs.

I decided to play my turns already after all , I doubt I would find time tomorrow.
It was a fun turnset :hammer:

We get open borders with Willem , Elizabeth and Sitting Bull.
Change the builds to axes for now in Wash and NY and get some more production going.

Change Boston to make us some lvl 2 swords .
Auto raze Leira.
WW starts to kick in , I prepared for it though and kept all city's 1 :) under its limit so no problem whatsoever.
IBT: Lose the 100% healthy combat 2 sword and the worker to a axe attack.
T106: NY: axe>axe
IBT: lose a cr2 sword to that pesky axe

Spoiler :

There is a worker next to Evora we still need to capture and the crazy mofo is the unbeatable axe that massacred our swords.
