We declared war on Rome, lost 3 veteran swordsman to 2 regular spears, and now Rome has signed an alliance with Babylon. Right now I am forming a national defense plan to coordinate our forces between defense from the Babylonians while keeping an offensive with Rome. Right now a possible MA with the Iroquois seems likely.

Alas, Babylon!

Perhaps we should switch prebuilds to military units? Yeah, that'd work... ;)

We should've gotten alliances before they did...oh well. Since Babylon is mostly mountains in the north, I'd just send some swords down to take the blows of other archers/swords while in mountains (4 defense!)

See? I told you swords in Fanatikku and Zojoji would be better! ;)

Using the Turn 0 save, I proposed military alliance deals to the Iroquois (only to see the foreign advisor's reactions, not actually offering them).

based on the advisor's reaction, the Iroqs will never sign an alliance against rome or babylon-- seperately or together-- even offered outrageous concessions (all our gold, luxuries, even whole cities)

Looks like we may have to fight this war solo, at least for the time being.

..or I could just use the Turn 3 save, where that problem seems solved. I say we get our friends the Iroquois into this war. :)

We can get the Iros to war with Rome at a word!

For a Combined Alliance against Rome & Babylon, "We are close to a Deal."

There are 2 options for the latter:
A Lux. The problem here is Trade Routes can easily be compromised without Astronomy.

The other option...

Monarchy at 4th (and perhaps 6th).

Basically, everyone else knows it.

As for Zojoji, its SPT is up to 11. We can get a Sword there at a cost of 12 Shields (1 extra, + 11 for the turn). Or we could expend shields with a Grannery then switch to Swords.

Fanatikku... even if we swap to Collesium, we lose a whole Swordsman's worth of shields. On the other hand, we're just as likely to get Sun Tzu with a Leader as with a Pre-build.

On the Slider Front, I can knock Science down to 50%. That gives us 8 GPT, which should cover maintnence and Unit Costs somewhat, but sets Feudalism back a Turn...

Another thing... All cities building units must have barracks! I'm seeing our frontier city build barrack-less spearmen!

Hey don't look at me, I'm not the governor! But I have asked Zarn to put more swords into the queues... right now I have this:

We can intercept the Babylonian Warriors and spearmen if we play our cards right

Since the moves are unpredictable (well they are) I have assigned each swordsman to attack a certain settler escort group.
The Red Swordsman will follow and attack it's corresponding escort group
The Green Swordsman (Yet to be built) will have to play catch up with it's corresponding escort group but it shouldn't be too hard.
The Blue Swordsman will cross the river to follow its escort group, but then take the road north should the EG flee north. Using the road the Blue sword can cut off the EG in Osgilath.

Here I have a proposal for the eastern Swords:

The red shows first turn movement, dark red second turn. I want to get north of Pompeii to see if there are any units coming back to defend their homeland, so we can cut them off.
The swordsmen with the black arrow has no definate place to go (as of yet) but I hope to find a place for them to go.

And I also propose using the spearman in Regent Town to take that Bab worker real quick and them jump back to the city. The babs have no horse so they cant get the city.
Also have the Horseman from Epolenep to go towards Antium

I am also worried about the Horsemen near Antium, seeing as if they get attacked by an archer they're doomed, more so the one next to the horses.

I have a suggestion for your warrior interception plan, civanator..

If the poll to change production of Zojoji (and Fanatikku) passes, Zojoji can build a sword in 1 turn. Thus, I suggest we use that Zojoji sword to stop the red escort group, and our red sword to intercept the green group. That gives us the opportunity to send the green sword-- when it's created-- directly to the front.

This is, of course, dependant on the public voting to end the pre-builds, but based on the public outcry after the last turnchat, that seems pretty likely.

A better deal to get the Iroq's in the war is to renegotiate peace. We can clean them out:

They Give: Peace, WM, TM, 26G, All vs Bab, All vs Rome
We give: Peace, All vs Bab, All vs Rome

We can sign that deal next turn?

Ashburnham- Your sugestion is a good one, but I have doubts that the public will change the production from the Great Lighthouse to a swordsman. If they do then I will change accordingly, but dont forget we have 3 days ahead of us yet.

We need a poll to change the production in Fanatikku, too.

Fanatikku - 1 sword every 2 turns.
Zojoji - 1 sword every 3 turns.

8 1/3 swords every 10 turns. The other cities can contribute, too. We really need to beef up now.

*does the "I told you so dance"* :p

I sure hope this serves as a wake up call and stops us from further needless agression towards our friendly, innocent neighbors.

Odawara should be building something better than spearmen, I think.

sign the deal if it works, we need all the help that we can get. THough we should stay on defensive until we build Saamarurai.

If we stay "Defensive", then we give the Iros a blank check on Rome, and perhaps East Babylon as well.

Let us keep building on Offense, so that our Tribal Friends do not grow overpowered.

The only question is whether we want to stay at war with Rome and Babylon for 20 turns, and whether it would take at least 20 turns to destroy Rome. If the answer is yes, then we should do the Iroquois deal. Another possibility is only signing the military alliance against Rome, so that we can sign peace with Babylon in less than 20 turns.

I agree with SD3. Recent setbacks notwithstanding, we still have the opportunity to make large gains in this war. Allying with the Iroqs, while still putting pressure on Rome and Babylon ourselves, will force them to split their forces against us. However, if we don't maintain our attack we run the risk of allowing the Iroq to ransack Rome from behind as we bear the brunt or their attack-- when we want just the opposite to happen. ;)
