Do we want to trade drama and philosophy for Civil service, monothesim and 20gold with Alex.

Oppps....I did not make in public.(I have no clue whats the current belief on this--)

Please repost the poll as a public poll, and request in the Needed Things thread (main Civ 4 DG forum) that this poll be closed and/or deleted.

deleted....

This is a referendum - a poll posted by an official in their area, correct?

From the CoL (Section 3.A.II)
IID. Official polls should be marked Public unless directly concerning another Citizen.

So, there's the law. See it? And you are correct, I don't have any authority over polls. I was just trying to be nice and help you out. Obviously, you don't want or need it, and would rather toss some embers on the fire.

Sheesh.

Doesnt mater any more....I resigned as SoS. See the presidents thread. I am done with a GAME that is supposed to be fun. Instead we are more concerned about how a poll is made instead of the outcome. You wonder why we cant fill offices...its becuase it isnt fun any more. It full of buerocratic nonsense that really has no place in this game. If I want that I can go listen to the US Senate on CSPAN or read about the UN.

Some of you are missing the important parts of the game so certain people can play politician. This is why this game is in such a sorry state. Civ 4 is more complex than Civ 3 so unlike other demo games..there will be no "lucking " into a win. You actually have to pay attention and plan a win in Civ4. We cant do that with the current demo-game system.

Thank god.

Goes to show your character and your complete lack of class.

With regards to you, I treat you with all the respect and courtesy you've shown that you deserve.

Buh bye.

Changed my mind Ravensfire...I will post the other poll to satisfy the CoL. You decide to make this personal....so I decided to stay to annoy you. If my being here and being elected annoys you...then preapred to be annoyed.

If you want...why dont you run against me next term..of course you would have to answer the questison as to your sudden disappearance after being elected a few terms back. The citizens really hate officials that do that.

Ah well - easy go, easy stay I guess.

Glad you're staying though - perhaps you'll understand that different people enjoy different aspects of the game, and that different people have different playstyles than you do.

Ravensfire...

I do understand that..BUT when a small group effectively kills the game for the majority of others. Some thing need to be changed.

please vote in the other poll if you didnt already

This deserves comment.

The CoL says should and the Censor's procedures currently allow a private poll to be binding. There was another defect with this poll which is that it didn't have a link to the discussion -- but neither does the other poll. That problem can be fixed by merely editing in the discussion link, in either poll.

For bookkeeping purposes, because the originator asked people to vote in the other poll, this one is marked invalid.

It would also seem that whether this poll is valid or not it would be superceded by the newer poll (unless of course this one was valid and that one wasn't). It's too bad robboo doesn't see that there can be circumstances where the citizenry is divided on an issue and that in such cases the validity of a poll is of prime importance to ensure the decision being sought is made fairly to all. That's what this is all about, not playing politician.

Sure some people are driven from the game by this sort of thing but others (like myself) are driven away when just plain normal citizens don't have a voice in how things are done in game. Fair polling practices would go a long way towards restoring the little guy's voice in this game - and that would make the game fun for more people and increase participation.

So why don't you join us robboo in creating some polling standards that are fair to citizens and officials?

Donsig: We're currently discussing if the poll-maker may decide if he wants it to be public. But it's clear to everyone (I hope) that the pollmaker at least has the right to make his poll public (and if you think his polls sucks, then you can make another poll yourself that would supercede his).

Not interested in wheather a poll is public or private. I am secure in my opinion to let everyone know how I voted.. For instance. I never voted for you yet. See how easy that is.

The outcome of a poll is all that matters..IF you can only hide behind a private poll to voice your opinion...you opinion must not be that important to you. Either write an amendment and let the citizens vote on it or just go away and let the debate die.

As you see with my poll....I was giving everyone a voice.. if not I would have just made the trade with out poll input since there had been a discussion(as allowed by the CoL). I challenge anyone to find an instance where I or another offical went against the polls (public or private)....I can think of one instance where something wasnt polled..the one that ticks you off. But that person is no long playing. So either hurry up and write the amendment that you have been complaining about...or drop it and lets play.

I have yet to hear you chime in on anything other that "political matters"...do you have an opinion on the game or are you here to play politician. If you here just to watch our country flounder about without offering any suggestions..I am sure you can find a better place to play politician than an internet forum. IF you dont want to contribute in the actual game play...why do you care if the citizens have a voice..yours hasnt been heard yet on anything that effects the actual game. Even when you had a chance to voice an opinion on a JR( was it 2?) you chose to abstain.

As I've said many, many times before, an amendment is not needed to allow private polls since our laws already allow them. It is only a series of Censors who want to wield inappropriate power that has led some to think private polls are illegal.

I believe I voiced my opinion on the JR you refer to. I merely decided to do it unofficially. As for giving in-game input, well, I did that way back before there was war with the Mongols. Others citizens did as well only to have Chieftess disregard everything that was decided in the forums and make her own trades in the chat. Since then I've seen nothing but elected officials who want to do things their own way. They don't use polls to ascertain the citizen's wishes. They use polls to cover their behinds when doing what they want to do. You want me to participate then reform the government so I have a say. Otherwise I'm not wasting my time on this game but trying to lay groundwork so the next one can be enjoyable.

How can we reform the governement when its is working following teh people will?

show me one instance where an official other than the chieftess' trade..where the will of the people was not followed. You can not....trust me I would have been right there with you complaining. Despite what ravensfire thinks...or you for that matter. I have only followed the will of the people even when I disagree...case in point the continuation of the Mongolian war.

How is this poll...covering my backside instead of doing what the people want? My "official" job is to check for trades, present them to the people and follow the wishes.....cant get much more straight forward. Every trade that was ever possible with me as SoS was discussed and a few were polled...yes I did do some without polling following a overwelming discussion to approve ..one that comes to mind..copper for 2gpt was changed to copper for 5 gpt.( you suggested this in a thread as a thing to do)

So I ask one more time..show me an official other than chieftess that did not follow the will of the people.
