She was busted back in the mid 90's for 'drug trafficking' - she facilitated a transaction for cocaine. I think this was small time, its not like she was running kilos around the country and apparently didn't even have possession of the drug. She served over 20 years of a life sentence (seriously), became a pastor and mentored other inmates.

Trump's commuting her sentence... And Kim Kardashian is why. Somehow she became aware of her plight and got involved. This case may be why Kanye West has been complimentary to Trump recently, his wife might have told him to be nice to Trump for her sake.

Anyway, maybe Trump can show some consistency and assign someone the task of examining all drug cases looking for similarly outrageous injustices. Nah, Trump's probably not doing this out of any sense of justice. Celebrities not on his enemies list got involved. And she's beautiful...you know how Trump cant resist beautiful women. ;)

Proving that we are totally beyond the rule of law and into the rule of celebrity and arbitrary whim of the "great leader."

Not that I think Johnson deserved anything like a life sentence, but it isn't exactly an effective sign of reform when you are guaranteed a lawyer but what you need is a Kardashian.

Noted prison reform adviser to the president, Kim Kardashian, strikes again.

Looks like she was part of a large distribution organization in Memphis, so while her role was limited to relaying messages to facilitate drug deals, the organization was extensive. Co-conspirators apparently turned on her for better deals from the prosecutors and I guess she didn't turn on anyone. Maybe because she had 5 kids and didn't want them being assassinated in retaliation.

She and her family need to offer Trump a sincere, heartfelt thank you. They need to pay it forward. They need to help him understand what it feels like to save someone's life. Kinda like the message from the cartoon "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" - the Grinch's heart grew upon realizing what the spirit of giving was all about.

Appealing to Trump's "better angels" hasn't proven to be effective. I think he needs to be punched straight in the nose with "nice photo op, but what about the hundred plus other people serving the same life without sentence for the same non-violent drug crimes that don't have the ability to butter your ass with a celebrity spokesperson visiting your office on their behalf?" Then follow with "btw, your attorney general is on the record saying that the revocation of the sentencing guideline that caused the travesty you just corrected was a mistake, and he is committed to more people like Alice Johnson getting sentences just like the one you just found to be so wrong, based on a photo op."

Thats why they need to butter him up...look at how Trump reacted when the basketball players were busted in China for shoplifting. He got mad at their ingratitude. Maybe Jared's the one who needs the butter, apparently he's in charge of criminal 'justice' reform. Kardashian went thru him to get to Trump.

Sorry, I just can't get behind abandoning the rule of law and replacing it with "blow the supreme leader for benefits." Trump needs to be punched squarely in the nose at every turn.

The only way to get back the Republic is to destroy the Sith. We should make such an example of the Trump family that no one will think of using our public offices for personal gain for the next three hundred years.

She's freed guys - 20 years is too long. Crimes against women have much less consequences then what this lady had to go through. If you do the numbers, she did the time, paid her debt. The thing that grinds my gears is Joy from ' The View' gave Trump no credit. How can a person be so hateful?

It's Trump. When the next administration comes along they should revoke all but one of his pardons. Or just revoke all his pardons and pardon Alice Marie Johnson again at the same time. As long as she doesn't go back to prison but all the others that trump pardoned get tossed back in.

The act is fine.

The motivation is not.

Trump should not be given credit for basic expressions of compassion, especially when said expressions are inevitably just favours for celebrity personalities.

It is good that she is free now. She was indeed set free by Trump. But Trump was not motivated by the woman's circumstances or the cruelty of it. He does not deserve credit based on compassionate action when it was not a compassionate act.

So in other words, Kim Kardashian gets credit?

I doubt she did it out of compassion, but she would deserve more credit than Trump in this scenario if how it's portrayed is true. Trump's only input was saying "okay".

How was the rule of law abandoned? Would you rather she stay in prison in exchange for punching Trump in the nose?

So if I find a sex tape celebrity with a giant butt, she could maybe convince Trump to stop the trade war? Is that how American democracy works these days?

Congress wrote a law enabling the Prez to interfere with trade for 'national security' reasons, democracy is how we got a possible trade war.

I doubt she did it out of compassion, but she would deserve more credit than Trump in this scenario if how it's portrayed is true. Trump's only input was saying "okay".

She saw a video someone produced about her and was moved to act. What other motivation is there?

That is actually not crazy. If he can be manipulated into doing something good, by all means do manipulate him!

Publicity and social cachet. The Kardashians are not known for their selfless philanthropy at their expense.

If there is a bad law, which there apparently is since not only Alice Johnson but more than a hundred other people were doing life bits for non violent barely crimes, the appropriate response in a nation ruled by law is fix the law. Saying, "well, looks like bad law but letting less than one percent of the people harmed by it off, so long as I get to grin like a goon after making Kim Kardashian squirm, is all I'm gonna do about it" is not addressing the problem.

I dont think so, this case may be why Kanye got in hot water for speaking well of Trump. He was buttering him up and was hit by the backlash.

Yeezy be what Yeezy do. This isn't the most unusual slew of behaviour for Kanye.
