Just wondering if anybody else is going to be playing Civ V on this system.
Just pre-ordered my copy off amazon was going to buy it off Steam as I thought buying a download would be cheaper I was wrong.

I dont know if many of us know what an "M11xR2" is. Can you give us the specs on your CPU, GPU, and RAM?

What specs are you going with?

The hardware is fine but I'd rather play civ5 on a larger screen :).

I think that the guy just wants to tell us that he is rich and can waste a ton of money on unreasonable expensive laptop instead of buying a desktop twice as powerful and half as cheap. :).

1) processor doesn't meet minimum specs
2) DX 10.1 is maximum support

more bang for your dollar: $2,003
Beats recommended on everything
Min spec is a dual core, which the M11xR2 has (either an i5 or i7).

m11xR2 should be fine - I can play SC2 on it at mostly high settings fine. The reason people go for the model is size (small and potable), price (as low as $900-1000 though with the usual config it's more likely to be around $1200), and battery life (can go up to 6-8 hours for regular non-gaming work).

According to the Civ V manual it requires a Core 2 Duo @1.8GHz

SC2 is designed for Korean POS laptops so that means nothing

Yeah, asking about Alienware model numbers is like asking how fast a Ford is, without saying whether its a car or a truck, or how many cylinders are in the engine.

What is the fun of playing SC2 on 11 inch screen? I think zerglings are so small you can't see them without zooming in to the max.

I thought the i3/i5/i7 lines at lower clock speeds can do better than the C2D at a faster clock speed when you factor in hyperthreading, turbo boost, etc? Raw clock speed numbers aren't really comparable on their own when it comes to performance. In any case, I'm pretty sure the m11xR2 configs can do the equivalent of the min spec given, so turning detail settings down and overclocking is always an option if needed given how well this particular laptop seems to handle it.

It's actually pretty playable, and there are many out there who would just plug in their laptop to a monitor for their gaming needs anyway.

The fastest processor he can get in the M11x is 1.2GHz. Westmere may be faster, but it isn't 50% faster (it's only ~25% faster)

But don't they go up to 1.8 (i5)/2.2 GHz (i7) when the turbo kicks in? Along with the i7 supporting HT which should really help out with Civ V, I really don't think playing the game will be an issue. I'd be very surprised if it turns out to be completely unplayable, I have yet to find a game I couldn't get running on mine.

It only turbo boosts to that when one core is running, I bet the game would be "playable" with a 1.66GHz Core 2 Duo
