All civs played?

I thought of a new way to keep me busy in my free time. Usually with Civ I go for one of the same five all the time. Sumeria, Netherlands, France, Germany (favourite) or Egypt. Very rarely I pick one of the others, like the Celts or Chinese. But there are also a lot of Civs I have never played, and I have played Civ A LOT! Never tried Mongols or Arabs, for instance. I usually don't play with exp, because I don't like the trait. I like Sci best (even before C3C).

Now I have set myself the goal to completely finish an epic game with each and every one of them. Doesn't matter what type of victory, although I intend to win differently as much as possible. And in spirit of the Civ. With Mongols I will aim for domination and with the Babs I will go to the moon and beyond. Today finished a domination victory game with the Sumerians, one of the easiest civs for any victory, I think.
All the easy civs I will play on emperor and the harder ones I will play on monarch or when I am in a good mood also on emp...

Has anybody won a victory with all civs?

LKendter probably has. I think he has played all of them in a Succession Game...

Many other people probably have too.

The only civ I have never been is Korea. I too wanted to play all the civs. (Huge world). It was a good learning tool. I had just finished the second to the last civ when I started to play the GOTM series. I think by having experance with all but one civ and a lot of victory types this helped me in the GOTM.

I also did all the civ with an "Ancient Age" unique unit on a tiny world. Victory type was conquest.

I did most game on regen but some were higher. The only diety game I ever won was tiny world as the Aztecs.

I just start all new games with Random civs. That ensures a complete mix.

I haven't played solo as...

- India
- Mongols
- Scandinavia
- Ottomans
- Arabia
- Hittites
- Netherlands
- Inca
- Maya

I'm not sure if I've finished as England or not. I know I've started plenty of games as them.

And do you use random opponents?
I want to have random opponents, but in literally all random opponents games I have played I ALWAYS get the Incans and virtually all other American Civs.
They are nice to play against, but to have virtually all of them every single game is a bit boring. I have tested it and in about 12 succesive games I played with 11 opponents in all but one all 5 American Civs were present. In the other one only the Iroquois were missing.
I have addressed this in a thread I started some months ago (called 'Stubborn Inca'), but there was no satisfying explanation for it.
It is a pity, because every time I select my own opponents, but I notice I have a prejudice against picking some of them. I rather not tend to have the Germans around, for example. Very powerful and aggressive opponent.

The American civ thing is a bug. Turn off culturally linked starting locations for random civ games.

Thanks, Punkbass! Never knew that.
And the starting locations are never culturally anyway. Not very often at least.

I have not finished a game as:
  • China
  • Iroquois
  • Spain(altough I am nearly finished a game as them)
  • Mongols
  • Celts
  • Sumeria
  • Hittites
  • Byzantines
  • Mayans
  • Incans

I never finished, nor played the game with any exp. or see. civ. I hate those traits.
Finished with all the others.....if i remeber corectly :)

Never taken much notice of what civs I've played as.
On the easier levels, now fighting through Monarch, 80% of the time I'd go for the Persians. Love the science and Immortals.
Now it's random everything with the cultural link turned off, what a great option.

I have played Arabs for the first time today and yesterday. On paper their UU doesn't seem too much of a great UU. But now I have played them they're great!
Most wars with neighbours can end quickly, because of the 3 movements. You take 2 steps into the enemy territory and often then there is a city to conquer. Did that with a lot of my neighbours and now I am by far the biggest fish around. The Mongols are just as big as me, with pop and terr, but I am at least 6 or 7 techs ahead. And I have more luxuries.

First game with an exp civ that I enjoy, although I have very rarely played an exp civ.

Where do you find the time.....?

I teach history. Teachers have a lot of spare time. And I live 5 minutes from the college I teach at, so I am home at 3 o'clock in the afternoon and start playing.

I wanna be a history professor when I graduate.... good career choice :goodjob:

I usually dont play seafaring civs, and civs with a naval UU....I have to get better at my ocean combat

I love the celts and the dutch

I thought that too, while reading!
But the agriculture is so powerful you don't even notice the other trait...

You should become one!!!! Best choice of my life!

And don't we all love the Dutch?

Smoke and a pancake?
Cigare and a wafle?
Cigarette and a flapjack?

I have tried most of them on tiny maps (minimal landmass) in war only games. Some I gave up because they were too bad or I was heading for a tasteless defeat. I have my favourites for builder games. I will never have builder games with militaristic civs.

call me sexist but i have never finished a game that has a female leader, im not a sexist person i just hate invisioning the leader of my great civ a woman, the closest i have ever had to a woman is catharine of russia, er oh she is a woman lol
