Hello Civ 7 Fans,

I have over 500 hours with C7 yet how do you form alliances with other AI players in single play. I get asked all the time yet can't ever form enough influence with other Civ's to grant one. Also, does the AI ever ask for an alliance when they don't want to declare war against another Civ on the next turn?

Any tips or suggestions on a path to form an alliance would be great.

You need to improve your relationship first of all. When it shows a heart, only then can you form an alliance. Friendly greeting when you first meet gets you a +20. If they offer you something, supporting it gets you more relationship points. Sending trade routes and sending out your own endeavours helps as well but supporting theirs seems to count for more.

You also need to not annoy them. Don’t settle within 10 tiles of their capital, don’t pursue independent powers they’re after, don’t have borders touching.

You should also keep an eye on their agenda. Some AI you’re more likely to be friendly with than others. E.g., Ben likes it if you have the same government. Ada likes it if you have lots of masteries researched, etc.

I just figured out last game how powerful spamming trade routes is for creating allies.

I started off the modern age with two of my worst enemies next to me, both at hostile relationship from the last age. I managed to get one of them to unfriendly with a reconciliation endeavor, but I didnt want to risk them opposing it and bringing us back to hostile so I went with trade routes. After sending my second one, I realized the relationship modifier for it had gone from +10 to +20. I was playing under the assumption that it was a flat +10 for having mutual trade but that was when I realized that every single trade route started adds to the relationship and so, 3 trade routes later, I had made an ally out of my worst enemy. Not sure if there is a cap on the amount of relationship gains you can get, but trade routes are easily the fastest way to get a neighbor to love you, especially when you are low on influence since the trade route endeavor is usually the cheapest one.
