Allies?

I think we should obtain alliances with at least one other civ when we declare war on the Aztecs, to decrease the chances that the entire world gangs up on us. I might be advisable to choose someone who will not be able to take valuable Aztec land from us during the war. The Americans may be too close, and we may be in competition with them for the valuable land bridge to the east. I suggest a civ further past them, maybe the English...

I fear that would lock us into a long drawn out battle.

If we strike as outlined in the Cyc plan, then the Aztec should have no money, or infrastructure to support payments, that would enable them to bring in allies.

Is anyone besides the Aztecs in range to send a force our way in less than 10 turns?

If not, it is likely we would be able to make peace with the ally should Monty find a way to get others involved.

I would like to think this war will be over in ten turns, but we should assume the worst, and give it at least 20, which is the length of an alliance. Remember, for some of the more aggressive civs in the game, it doesn't take much for them to sign alliance with or against you. And, I have seen AI civs sign alliances for the return of only a world map this early in the game.

But eyrei- why would they do so for a map, when we are yet to get Map Making? Also- we have the biggest army. The other civs know that. The only people we need to worry about are the Japanese and the Americans. If possibly, I would suggest giving them something like 5g to keep them friendly (ive seen that do an alliance too.)

I would be willing to bet that several AI civs are researching map making right now. Giving gifts would be an option if we had any money...

I oppose signing any alliances for this particular war. The Aztecs are, as I have said before, dirt poor. AFAIK no one yet possesses Map Making and by the time they do it will have become obvious that the Aztecs are going to get slaughtered, so I don't think we have to fear any alliances being signed for a mere map.

Most if not all citizens have oposed this, as does the FA, since it will trow us into a 20 turn commitment. We do don't need an ally against the aztecs.
The FA has made it perfectly clear that it will not condone a lengthy war, we want a quick and desicive attack that will cripple the aztecs' posibilities of being a future military threat to Fanatika as well as ensure our superiority over them. If they are not completelly destroyed...wich could very well happen.

I am also against alliances.... This was discussed in the Aztec War Plans thread CivGeneral posted and alot of people were against the idea.

If we strike quickly enough and it looks like we are going to win the war it makes the AI''s price for a military alliance go up. The aztecs are very poor and I doubt has enough monney to pay for an alliance.

If the aztecs start to win then the price for alliances will go up. Alot of are money we will be putting into war efforts. I doubt we will have enough money to pay for an alliance if that happens.

I think a new demogame might be around the corner... But, FA should try to seek alliences - The closest that we know of is America and Japan.

Though the Japanese are on the agressive side now. We should be cautous when Dealing with The Japanese .

We are still the greatest military power on the planet, and are not in any danger of losing at this point. I think alliances would be counterproductive at the moment, as they would cost more than they are really worth to us. We can - and should - win this war alone.

I'm not saying we need to seek allies now, I'm just saying we need to be on the look out for a repeat, Monty may be consolting is advisors about Alliances as we speak as well.

I'm not worried about Monty. I'm worried about the japs. They already showed their attention to destroy us and they are perfectly able to get alliances. Where monty would have some trouble.
