IM BACK.. been 2 yrs heh..

ok.. here is my suggestions.. i remembered CivII allowing another nation;s unit to enter into ur city for repairs and healing and etc etc.. IF im not wrong.. but in CivIII i dont see this.. i was hoping this move will make its comeback in CIV4 where your allies allow ur unit to enter their city for unit repair and only a limited number of units allowed in the city. THIS will be easier for your units to advance in full strength when going to war with an enemy nation far from your civ.. and to do this u must have a rights of passage treaty.. and yes BRING BACK EM DIPLOMATS UNITS..

A good idea. In fact, it's so good that it should be applied to all cities instead of just the city of Ur as you proposed. ;) :D

I like the idea. :) It may need some thinking over about the results of what happens in the city if war breaks out...

Some thoughts I came up with:

If an allied unit is in your city, and suddenly they become your enemy, there may be a possibility of a huge battle in the city. Then again, there may be a possibility of the units being captured by your forces (depending on their strength).

Quite a few things to think about. ;)

The problem with things like this is that they get really complicated.

And, how would these big battles take place? Sounds a bit too RTS to me.

your PPD'll be all messed- up for the rest of your life! ;) :nya:

Its not that complicated, actually. In SMAC, if an alliance were cancelled, then all allied units in your cities would be expelled-the same could be done here. I also think that if you go from an alliance to a standard relationship, then there should be a minimum time period you should wait before declaring war UNLESS you want a huge hit to your international reputation! But the expulsion of units is probably solution enough!!
Another point about SMAC, though, is that you could have a military alliance WITHOUT it being aimed at a 'common enemy'. You could simply ally 'militarily' for the sake of any future scenarios (after all, NATO wasn't an alliance to MAKE WAR against the soviets, merely to help defend against a possible future attack from them OR against them!)

When war broke loose between the alliance its either MY unit or THEIR unit will take one tile out of the city and commence fresh attacks BUT the Unit bar will go from 4/4 to 3/4 because of pre battle fatigue.. and depends on the type of Government and if there is a Guerrilla unit in the city where Mine or their units are.. their battle fatigue will go to 4/4 to 2/4 half of it.. remember iraq?

thats my Idea

keep in mind in civ II they didnt really "enter" the city they just kind of bumped into it and got repaired. i used to hate it when i accidentally did that with an engineer.

i like the idea of healing in an allied city if we can add something else ive been kind of thinking of. am i the only one who thinks healing of units occurs too fast?

yeah im probably the only one :)

ok how about this. in the current game a conscript has a 50 percent chance of becoming a regular but a veteran has only one eighth chance of becoming elite. what if units always half a fifty fifty chance of promotion and they can promote all the way up to 10 bars by winning a whole bunch of battles? i suspect the true mechanics of wars wont change THAT much but it would add a bit of excitement in a way.

That makes sense, although what do mines have anything to do with this?

That might be realistic (ex. a elite soldier is 5x better than a drafted one) But seeing 10/10 Modern Armor running about might be abit unbalanced :mischief:
