U.S. does use the old standard map which augments landmasses near the northern hemisphere towards silly proportions (like Greenland and the UK). But so what? China uses a map which centers on China and wraps America into a curved shortened shape and the Islamic world uses maps that augment the Islamic bloc to make it look bigger. Even the 'new ones' used by green peace and other organizations that try to show true relatively between Europe and Africa are flawed. The point is you're not going to get a good 2-D of the world, so we pretty much can use whichever one we want. And on behalf of America, I apologize for not using the version you'd prefer.

I think the point everyone has missed is the outrageous claim that Americans learn world geography. Had me fooled.
