Altering Corruption in the editor?

I want to alter the game to eliminate the rank corruption from the game to encourage more longer games and sprawling empires. Is this as simple as altering the game rules in the map editor by making the optimal number of cities some extremely large number and then generating a map to play as a scenario?

Has anyone ever tried doing this?

You don't have to generate a map, just save it as a scenario after making the changes you're suggesting. The game will still create a random map using those settings. And yes, that would be how you do it. Keep in mind that by doing so, you're removing a barrier for the AI with it's urge to expand. Once it reaches it's ONC, it slows down and deveops it's empire instead. With no limit, it will just keeping on sending out Settlers.

Frankly, I think a better approach would be to add more Forbidden Palace like improvements.

Yeah, I may have to try your suggestion if I can figure out how to implement it without messing up the balance of the game even more. As far as the AI constantly sending out settlers though, won't they have to stop and start building up instead once the maps starts filling up and there's nowhere left to build? Or will they just keep searching and/or start building new cities right next to their current ones just for the hell of it?

You could always turn the corruption way down in the editor.

And I've seen the map mostly settled, and the AI have a bunch of settlers hanging arouind, so I think they keep going until the OCN is reached, and not a lack of map space.

Is there a way to just turn down the rank corruption in the editor without altering distance corruption as well?

They keep going even after the OCN is reached, but it's much slower.

Several ways to reduce corruption (REDUCE--if you use Editor to make a government with "corruption NONE" it will give maximum corruption instead, it's a code error I think)

1. create simple improvements--I use Dungeon (for Despotism) and Torturer's Guild (for any gov, with Dungeon as prereq)
2. Wonders (Gestapo and KGB both put a Torturer's Guild in every city for example)
3. Reduce all govs to "Minimal Corruption" in Editor
4. Change the Civil Police. This is the best, IMHO, I've used it, but I changed back to make the grfx fit the era better (I don't want the labor of changing smallheads grafix, it's a chore.) But the easy way is in Editor, change the required Tech for Civil Police and pump up their corruption-reducing capacity. I set it to three (with Military Tradition I think.)

Personally, I prefer these methods--I hate watching all those AI settlers wander around with nothing to do... ;)

or just add the reduce corruption thing to some improvements like temples and cathederals...

does adjusting the corruption level in the difficulty modifier adjust the corruption experienced by the AI as well, or just the player??
