Just won my third game (first two on Monarch...last on Emperor:D ). All three were spaceship victories. I always put all my presets on random (including my own starting civ), and I never go back in time no matter how dumb my move might be.
I don't intentionally go for spaceship, but it always seems to be the best way to victory. Is this just my style of play or is it just the easiet way to win.
Also has anyone been nuked while completing the ship. I keep a close eye on the space race, and always have a few nukes around just in case (never had to use them). It seems the AI should nuke me as a last resort before I finish the ship. Thats certainly what I would do.

It's your style of play. My guess is that you are like me, and lean far more towards building and researching than military combat. So your game goes long, and thus you get to the spaceship victory more or less by default. If you switched to a very aggressive play style then you'd start seeing domination/conquest victories all the time.

If you don't put pressure on the AIs (and if they don't put serious pressure on you) then everyone will tend to be highly advanced and have a strong infrastructure, these two in combination make the space race a natural way to go.

If the spaceship victory is boring you, you might go for diplomatic victory next time. That will probably fit your style of play (if I'm reading it right) as well. Or you might want to do a 180 turn-around and go super-aggressive. :)

I am a fairly peaceful player, and I have won spaceship, cultural, and diplomatic victories. The spaceship victory is the easiest to strive for, though. Diplomatic victories require a carefully managed foriegn policy maintained over thousands of years. Cultural victories cannot be attained unless your nation is large and productive from the beginning of history. Both of these types also involve a good bit of luck. Out of all the games I've won, two were diplomatic victories, one was cultural, and the rest were by spaceship.

Thanks guys,

Templar, I too believe the spaceship victory should be more difficult, and will try your mod after finishing my current game. I'm looking forward to researching those 6 or 8 modern techs that I never get to.

It seems 50% of the modern era is geared towards spaceship parts. 40% towards wonders (great and small). There needs to be more techs to spread out the spaceship parts. That would make it more of a challenge. Plus, it does seem strange going to another planet BEFORE getting sattelites. :)

Seems strange discovering manned space flight before discovering satelites.
Then again, building an interplanetary colony ship before discovering the technology to build SDI does seem about on target.

Cultural victories and conquest victories go hand in hand - use your leaders to rush wonders, and create the super (cultural) city. Be careful, though, since you'll probably achieve domination before conquest (definately not as much fun).

Templar,

Looked at your modern age tech tree...looked pretty good. However I've never used the editor before (have looked at it). Will it give me an option to play your mod, or will it permenently change the default settings
Also, was that a jet fighter I saw on one of the first techs, and did you make any other changes (I tend to think the spaceship parts are way to cheap. I am usually building nukes at the time, and when I have access to all the parts I switch everything over, and can literelly build the entire ship in about 7 turns).
One more thing...How about one small thread that doesn't lead to the spaceship, perhaps one the bottom leading to the Cure for Cancer and Manufacturing Plant. It would give the player something to think about deciding which tech to research.
Sorry, one more thing. Can I switch to a new mod in the middle of a game?
Thanks for everyone's help.

As it stands, my modpack replaces all of the old files. One way to do it is back up your old files that get replaced and swap them out. Or find modswapper-type software (CTP2 had a third party modswapper) that controls the uptake of the files by the civ3.exe. Supposedly PTW will support this feature. I know its annoying because I have several mods, and short of multiple installations, it requires alot of file swapping. But you don't have to touch the editor.
