I won my first Civ 3 game... Spaceship victory... played another one, UN Victory... played another one, conquared everyone... well to be perfectly honest, I was kinda dissapointed, with short movies and boxes saying "You Won"... so I tought I'll never play another game...

Then I woke up the next day, and what I do? Turn on my computer and started another game!!!

AM I A JUNKIE?????

"Just one more turn. . ."

Those dreaded words. Next thing I know the sun is coming up. :crazyeyes

"Hello my name is Hobbes, and I'm a CivIII addict."

"Hi Hobbes"

"Well I guess it all started with CivII, you all probably know, staying up till 4 in the morning, progressing up the difficulty level, having the wife get mad  because your playing too much. After a while your playing falls off to a normal level and you think your doing ok and then BAM, CivIII comes out and your back chassing that rabbit, staying up until you kill off the Egyptians, you've probably have heard this before"

"Well yes, we've all heard this story before Hobbes, but thanks for sharing your story with us" :groucho:

I became a junkie way back during the first Bush Administration.

I worked for a university computing center, and during one of my inspections of the labs, I noticed a friend of mine playing an interesting game.

He told me it was called Civilization. I said I'd like to try it. He loaded it up on a PC for me when my shift ended. This was at 6PM.

I sat down and started to play.

The next thing I knew, it was 6PM THE NEXT DAY. I'd spent 24 hours straight in that chair playing Civilization. Didn't sleep, didn't eat, didn't go to the bathroom.

I've rarely been quite so extreme in my playing, but in terms of addiction, it was all downhill from there.

Once you put it on the work computer, it's all over. The only downside is that b/c of firewalls at work, I can't download the patch. Small price to pay...

Stu : Hey Reg, how was your weekend?
Reg (looking a little sleepy) : Hmm?
Stu : Did you get your CS241 assignment done?
Reg : Nope.
Stu : Any progress on the AM333 project?
Reg : Nope.
Stu : Did you go to Mike's party on Saturday? I didn't see you there?
Reg : Nope
Stu : What were you doing all weekend?
Reg : A friend of mine gave me a copy of Civilization on Friday.
Stu : Got it.

I got Civ1 at 2pm on Friday. I slept from 6am to 10am Saturday morning and 1pm to about 5pm on Sunday afternoon. The rest of the time was spent playing Civ, going to the bathroom, eating potato chips, and drinking beer.

Civilization is dangerous. Sid Meier is personally repsonsible for the 25% I got in second year statistics. It wasn't my fault. I had no control over the urge to play. I'm pretty sure Sid added hidden messages to the game that forced me to turn it on and convince myself I'd just play a single turn after I finished each question in the assignment. Sid is an evil evil person.

Yeah, it's pretty dangerous, they really should put a huge warning label on the box. :nuke:

"THIS GAME MIGHT INTERFERE WITH ANY SOCIAL LIFE AND OCCUPY YOUR BRAIN FOR ETERNITY"

or

"UNLIMITED ADDICTION INCLUDED"

Got the game late autumn 2001.

My grades for the autumn 2001 was the worst ever for me.

Anyone see a connection?? :scan:

I hate the game.
Im never going to play again.

After one more move...

I don't understand how Sid did it... it just shows how great a game it is!

Just one more turn...

...a war? ill just take a few cities tho....

...ok i may aswell finish the game...
