Man, I am soooo suffering a case of deja vu right now. These very same arguments were cropping up ALL through the earliest part of 2001, right before Civ3 came out and, though the game was not IDEAL, I have found myself playing it for more hours than ANY other game in my collection-especially after C3:C came out. Civ4, OTOH, actually looks at least as good-if not better-than C3:C was-so I feel certain that, even if there are parts which I probably won't like, there is gonna be so much that I DO LOVE about it that I won't be able to stop playing the game!!!
What these people also have to remember is the diversity of opinion about what MAKES a great civ game-even at places like CFC and Apolyton. If Firaxis tried to seriously please EVERY SINGLE FAN, then the game would end up being a horrendous mish-mash that NO-ONE would buy!!!!
Lastly, as I said previously, there is still several months before the game goes on the market, and I remember how much civ3 changed in a similar period of time. So I say: be patient and stop whining until we know for CERTAIN how the game looks and feels (which we will probably know around 2 months before release). I can assure you that, based on previous experience, any complaints made then will register, and might well be dealt with in upcoming expansions!
At least, thats how I see it!
Yours,
Aussie_Lurker.
