My original order for Civ III was placed on Sept. 1 and due to ship Oct. 31 and arrive, more or less, that Saturday. Then, Amazon.com decides to ship its product late, so my game didn't leave until November 1. I figure, that's ok, I'll just upgrade my shipping so I get it on Saturday and can play it this weekend (parents restrict gaming during the week). Then, Amazon.com decides to change the expected arrival date to November 5 from November 2 or 3 (can't remember exactly). I needed the game that weekend, but it was inconsiquiential if I got it any day of this week. So there went the money for upgraded shipping down the tube:mad:. Then, yesterday came and went. Guess what, no game. Today came and went. Guess what, still no game. I tell you, Amazon.com has gotta be the worst online retailer out there. I bought Black and White from EBGames and with standard shipping had it in 2 days. This is just ridiculous. The worst part is that I was thinking about changing from Amazon to EBGames when I heard they were packaging Risk II, but I said no, why change, you've already got a reservation.

:sniper: Amazon.com :rocket:

Well, now that that's offa my chest...

I noticed that civ3 was released on Oct. 30. I ordered the LE on the fourth. I usually don't pay extra for upgraded shipping, but I though hey, second day air will get it to me thursday or friday and I'll get an extra weekend. Well it's now nov 6 and Its not scheduled to be here until tomorrow. They didn't ship until nov 2, didn't leave their warehouse until nov 5 and won't get here until tomorrow. You can be sure that I will demand a refund for the extra shipping and never buy at amazon again. Amazon: you may be able to screw over someguy cassually waiting for a book he won't even read, but making me miss six days of civ (2 of which were weekend days) is like delivering Christmas presents on New Years! I will never buy at amazon again, even if I have to pay more to shop somewhere else!

I got mine in a store and am returning it to screw those slowpokes.

brandon's store is the same as mine, without the LE....if they say second day air, I understand it doesn't move on weekends...yet, they were late releasing it and it got here any extra day late ON TOP OF THAT! They should have at least refunded shipping or indicating they could have saved me $ by accepting the other shipping.

they are decent for books and DVD's. My game business now goes to EB for life.

Amazon.com is going to go the way of the Dodo if they don't get their $*!7 together. When their core business was books and software they were effecient, affordable, and fast. Now that they've branched out into cordless drills and electric mixers they've went down the crapper. Suppliers have went unpayed, layoffs have been made, and the speedy service that made paying for postage bearable is a thing of the past. It's a downward spiral that Bezos may not be able to charm his way out of.

I too preordered the LE from Amazon--I think it was on the second day after it appeared on their site (early August, if memory serves). At that time the estimated ship date was the 30th; however, as the days passed it became the 31st, and my estimated arrival time was soon listed as Nov. 5-9.

At first I had no problem with this. When CivIII finally started cropping up in EB's across the country on the 30th, however, my mood changed. Last Tuesday, I just said the heck with it and made a 100 mile round trip to an EB and bought the game there. My order with Amazon was cancelled, and all future ebusiness game orders will be with EB exclusively.:p

Amazonians...this is Civilization III, not Battlecrusier 3000AD. When CivIV comes out...you may want to expedite the delivery process.

My Amazon story is also a tale of woe.

I preordered the normal edition from Amazon at the start of October. They send me their "confirm" email, saying it will be shipped on the 31st and arrive here in Sydney, Australia shortly after.

A lot of people question my decision, saying "You can't ship from the USA to Australlia" But I answer them: no, I have the confirm email from Amazon, it will come. I have faith.

On the 2nd November, when I'm expecting the game to arrive, I get an email saying they can't ship it to Australia. What??!!? Then why did you take my order in the first place, you idiots?  How come it took you more than a month to work out you couldn't ship it to me? I could have preordered from another store (outside the US perhaps) except that you told me you would send it to me.

So I start an email war with the Amazon complaints department. "Sorry," they say, "But it's the US Federal law that prohibits us from sending it to you." You can't argue with US Federal Law. :(

Then, two days ago, another user on this board (Damienfisher, who is a champion) posts that he ordered his copy of Civ 3 from Amazon. And they just delivered it. And he lives in Sydney.

GGGGRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!

:rocket: :rocket2: :rocket3:

So I write back to Amazon and say "What's this crap about not being able to send to Australia?" no response as yet. I couldn't believe they could be this incompetent - or unethical - or hopeless - or fraudulent. But they are. If they redeem themselves by sending me the game I'll post about it, but at this stage I'm not optimistic.

I just checked my Amazon order status, and its been bumped back to Nov 9-Nov 15  . It started at Oct 30, then Nov 2-3, then Nov 5-9, and now this! I doubt I will get it before the Mac users do....

I just canceled my order with them. I'm also going to write them an email. I'll somehow get it somewhere else. Where would you suggest?

EDIT: Does anybody know the email address or real address or amazon so I can send them a "Dear john" letter?

Oh man that sucks.

All I did was I put my name down at my local EB two weeks before the game was released and when they got it, they gave me a call and I picked it up. :goodjob:

For game purchases, I'd recommend EB if you want to get the games ASAP because even if you order online, they ship the game the same day the games are getting shipped to their stores (I think), and if you pre-order early enough, they'll give you express shipping for free. So basically then you get the game the same day the stores get it.

And no, I do not work for EB. :)

Who cares?????

just cancel your order and order again at gamestop.com if you still haven´t received you copy!

i ordered monday and my copy JUST ARRIVED!!! [dance] [dance][dance]
Only 2½ days! (while they say 3-5 days..) :D

i´m of for a loooooong time playing, just have to work a couple of hours more.

What gets my goat (haven't had the moral to go and check the university mail yet today) is that I only went through amazon.com as there was a nice fluffy link to them via the civfanatics front page

Sadly it's too late for me to cancel my Amazon.com order like some of you guys.

HOPEFULLY I get the game today. I checked the status of my order and UPS sent the dang thing to the wrong place and have to fix it. I definitely like EBGame.com's usage of FedEx better too.

UPS delivered my copy in just 2½ days after ordering. And it had to go overseas...!

i definitely use gamestop again!

To British Fanatics...how long did it take for expedieted shipping by Amazon once they shipped it?

I pre-ordered it by Amason.co.uk(half October), but will receive it (I hope) 21/11. It will be still faster than waiting to get it in our stores. This is due to that I life in the Netherlands.

Why did y'all even bother to order from Amazon? I mean, it's not like the X-Box or anything where you wouldn't be able to buy it off the shelf on 10/31.
Best Buy is just as cheap as Amazon, you go in, you buy it, you go home and play.
I guess if you live in the middle of nowhere and there isn't a mall or Best Buy/Circuit City around, I could see ordering it. But seriously, I never would order a game I want upon release.

I've never had a problem with Amazon, but that's because I never order from them something I need immediately.

Don't blame CFC! Thunderfall got stuck waiting also. I myself was going to preorder from Amazon.com but I didn't have the money until 1 Nov. So on the 31st I wrote a check and got the game. :) Can't prewrite a check using Amazon! :) Thanks to my local Babbages for taking checks. A lot of places around here don't.

I ordered my copy from Amazon in Sept because it was cheaper there, plus I got a $5 coupon from the internet to cover the shipping fee. On Nov 1 when it's clear that Amazon would not let me have it in a week or two, I download Civ 3 somewhere and played it since. Yesterday (Nov 8) I finally received the game from Amazon in shrinkwrapped box, at that time I was already in my 2nd game in 1860 fighting with Japaness. Now I have the legit copy but I still play the downloaded version because it doens't require the game CD in drive while playing. So virtually what I got from Amazon was a legit key to download.
