Amending the Constitution

Not that I don't trust Shaitan, but I think that our current law should continue to be upheld. It's not like Shaitan is going away. He'll still be here to perticipate in discussions and such.

I do fear, however, what a mod in the court coud possibly do, what with his power of basically altering anything a person says. Again, I don't think Shaitan would ever do that, but its possible by someone else in the future.

One more thing. I think its good that at least one member of the court has left. This would obviously create a vacancy. It would be a good chance to let someone else's view into the court.

Actually, when a post in edited by anyone other than Thunderfall, I think, it shows at the bottom who edited it and when. Lets do a test. See your above post.

Yup. It does show the actual editor's name.

But, why do we try to bend our rules? Did we get so far down the drain?
We made the rules like that on purpose, and so we should stick with them and not bend them at will.

I feel like I have said this before but, the rules only exist to facilitate the game, not the other way around. If people vote to have this change made, there is absolutely no reason not to change it.

I am having a hard time figuring out your positions dis.

In this case, we should never change rules. In your other proposals, we should make sweeping changes to the laws around governors and the control of their provinces.

It doesn't seem to match up. Perhaps you could clarify?

True enough. All three positions of the Judiciary ran unopposed last election. I hope that more citizens will get involved with this branch of the Government in the future.

I've been thinking about this some more and, although I have enough faith in Shaitan's good character to believe that he would not try to abuse his modly powers if allowed to hold office, I don't think I can really support this proposed change. I think the clear line of seperation between demogame officials & forum officials is one that should be maintained, without exceptions to cloud the issue. If Shaitan still wishes to play the role of Chief Justice then he can decline his modship and reclaim his spot, I for one would be very happy to see him do so as I believe the role suits him perfectly.
I also don't particularly like the idea of the rules being changed for one person. Especially when that person wrote the rules in the first place! It seems strange to enforce a rule only until someone actually wants to break it... It sets a bad precedent, and example.

@bill: in other cases we change rules to finetune things. in this case, we would change a rule just to allow 1 person break the former rule. so if shaitan would want to be president, we would propably allow him presidency, high-judge and mod and change the rules accordingly?
(well, shaitan is only the example here. i would even second him being both if this was not against my principles)

As I said above, I do not want a special dispensation rule change for my benefit. This proposed change should be viewed without me in the equation. Either it works for everybody or it works for nobody.

I must apologize for posting here without reading the thread but I've already spend too much time in the forums this morning. however, this is an important issue and things do seem to move along swiftly here. So I will say my peace with the above disclaimer in mind. :)

Anyway, I do not think the mods should hold office or even be citizens in the game. Much of our success in the first Civ 3 demo game resulted form the mods being somewhat detached. Since he is the writer of the bulk of our rules (and is still working to change them as he sees fit) I do not think Shaitan can be so detached. I am already concerned that there will be a tendency to run to Shaitan for rules clarifications rather than using our own judiciary. I can see the demo game becoming unbalanced if the mods are active participants in the game.

Allowing a mod to run for any office would, IMHO, turn that office into a lifetime appointment rather than an elected office. Not only does a mod have power that citizens don't have, they also gain an aura of respectablility and infallibility that may or may not be deserved. Running against an incumbent is difficult enough, running against a mod well nigh impossible I should think.

@donsig: DOM and DOF were also citizens ;-)

i only suspect that holding mod-status will bring people here to "talk in their way" to not get into trouble or maybe even "be afraid to oppose them" in discussions.

You do make good points about mods in office though.

I agree. I do not think lack of moderator involvement made the first game a success. While both things are true (the first game was a success and there was minimal mod involvment), they are not dependent on one another.

I think, regardless of what position he holds, Shaitan will end up clarifying the consitution anyway.

The phrase "suck up" springs to mind :p
