An idea of mod.

Reading the Tank VS Spearmen thread, I figured out that all Sid Meier's Civilization lacked of battles circumstances. Like if it is an ambush, an open field battle, a battle with a lot of covers like for example buildings, trees or rocks, etc... there is much more circumtances possible in the real world than those mentioned here.

And one of these circumtances are the number of forces in presence.

In Civ, it is most of the time (unless with wounded units) a battle of X forces VS X forces. The exact same number. What about to alter this a bit?

The mod would consist in the ability to create single units (represented by one only person/machine on the map), and the possibility to merge them.

Within Civ5, the possibility to merge them would end up to another option displaying when one unit goes on the tile on another friendly units: switch OR merge.

Building up a full capacity unit from the start (we may have the choice to build singles, plural - 2 in the case of tanks - and full) would cost less than if the same amount of units built from "single" or "plural". This to represent the mass-build save. Gameplay-wise, this would balance the benefit to have early units pretty soon but more of less weak and a more late unit but at full strenght.

What do you think?

To me this sounds like stacks through the back door (which I don't say would be bad nor good - I am quite neutral on this), right?

Hmm... i didn't think of this... Well the difference with stacks is that units in stacks are just full strenght units that fight against other full strenght units. And the stacks are weakening the influence of terrain in battle, which is not the case here, because at the max we would have actual Civ5 units.

So what you're proposing is Civ3 armies...... so we go back to an AI that can't use them as well? :)

Sorry, fail imo.

Are you familiar with the call to power method? Is that what you're thinking of?
