anarres vs. ERIKK game 2 Deity level

Battlefields: the battle of Matsuyama

The battle of Matsuyama will probably be known of one of the most bloody battles in history. Persian field copmmanders do not know exactly what happened at the starting of the battle of but reports from the front tell us about a large force of Shipai cavalry bounching their head on a group of 4 rifleman on a hill. This group was eventually destroyed but the Ottomans must have had severe casualties and also had much wounded forces from this action.

At the beginning of turn 202 the Persian forces were confronted with with about 17 Shipai's and 4 more in Matsuyama

Persian troops then razed Matsuyama and destroyed half of the Shipai's and wounded much of the rest of them (leaving as far as we can see 3 healthy Shipai's, a wounded Shipai army and 4 wounded Shipai's).

It is uncertain if the Ottomans have even more Shipai's in the vicinity. We have moved our rifleman in front of our Cavalry, note that one commander mismoved his cavalry too far back  He was immediately fired!

After the bloody battle for Matsuyama the battlefield moved south to Larsa. This battle ended in a Persia victory and the final destruction of the Ottoman armies. The Ottomans were now convinced to talk about a peace agreement.

Hi ERIKK, hi annares,

I am following this game closely since day 1 and just wanted to tell you that I am really amazed how skilled you both are on deity level games.

Can't wait to read what's coming next.

Thanks Ronald,

The game is progressing slowly these days. We have to play our other games too (tourny for me, anarres has the tourny, gotm and a succession game! ). We also are present in other PBEM's of which most of them are a bit quiet...

We are at turn 212 right now and anarres (lots of) his cities have exploded to size 14 to 16. (He must have added workers ;) ). I built Hoover in turn 210 and am finishing my railroads network right now. I have been focussing in getting the hills and mountains first as my cities already were size 12.

My empire building has suffered from the Ottoman war and we will stay quiet for a while :) But soon China will attack the Ottomans and you will see plenty of action again.

I know lots of people are following our game. I have an average of 15 to 20 views per day on my site

My website will not be updted until the weekend, when GOTM is finished and the 3rd tourney game is released.

To keep you up to date, my empire building is going very well, and I have many cities at full size/production. :)

My hard drive is gone, my website will be missing some moves again. :(

ERIKK:

I need the save game again. I was going to play it last night, but the PC I was on was very flakey and lost it's internet connection before I could finish downloading the PTW patch.

I have got my own PC reinstalled today and the internet seems to like me again. I am instaling ptw now, and I have the patch. When you send me the game I can play.

Could I get some info from turn 204 onwards as well, if you have anything about what I did (diplo, etc). Thx :)

It would be ERIKK, but I am installing only 1 thing at a time...

Office was first, so I could send and recieve emails.

CivIII was next, but that forced DirectX8 to kick in. PTW is going on now.

MSM is just finishig downloading, after which I will reboot to allow the DirectX8 install to finish :crazyeye:

Haven't you ever had to reinstall everything?

Don't forget, most of my stuff was on my store partition which went with all my other data. I have to download most things again from scratch, sometimes having to hunt around for what I want....

CivGeneral takes a seat in the observers plat form and beguins to take notes

Dont mind me, I am just trying to be an expert Civ3 Player :).

ERIKK takes a seat preparing to throw some oil on the fire!

<Xerxes is polite>

From the Persian Propaganda Agency
Persian diplomats have been complaining about the Chinese lack of actions during the last 25 turns. In turn 198 Persia and China signed a treaty. In this treaty a number of things were agreed upon. Most important point in this treaty was the non agression pact in exchange for an Chinese invasion of Ottoman lands. This would be conducted quite fast after signing the agreement. This way China could use its large numbers of cavalry they had build.

Well, the Ottomans have attacked us instead and lost their offensive power, making it even more easy for the Chinese to destroy them. But still Persian informants tell us nothing is happening along the Chinese-Ottoman borders...

Should we brave Persians start worrying about this situation or are the Chinese gonna live up to our agreement? There are only 10 turns of non agression left!

ps; we apologise for that brave infantry who entered Chinese territory without any warning. He was forced by Ottoman workers to move into China ;)

My website is badly out of date, I will update tonight or tomorrow.

ERIKK, the Ottomans attack of you made me change tactics. The need to grab the cities diminished when the Ottomans attacked you. My attack was planned to take the bite out of them, before they got infantry.

I am not sure if I will take the cities yet, I will if I deem it to be in the interests of China. Maybe I will consult the people, we are a Republic, after all. :)

FWIW, here is the treaty (as stated by you ;)):

- Persia and China have a non-agressionpact untill turn 235.
- China may attack the northeastern Ottoman cities but not keep them. They must be razed.
- China may attack 8 of the central Ottoman cities near and on the landbridge.
- Persia may take over the 3 Ottoman cities in their southeast.
- The borders on the landbridge are drawn (see picture).
- The former Ottoman and Greek nothern lands will be a DMZ. Persian and Chinese observers will be stationed.

Note the bold text, no invasion of Ottomans land is required by this treaty. Maybe we should think of a new treaty for 235 onwards, maybe we shouldn't. What do you want to do ERIKK?

<Xerxes is annoyed>

With "may" I meant that I allowed it... Afaik you were going to attack them ANYWAY...

after all: you wanted it so badly and after a discussion of 1 hour we agreed to let you take those cities... Now you have an excess of cavalry which I find annoying and also had a free non agression ride. I wanted 10 turns but we made it 35 turns... => enough time for you to take out those Ottoman cities...

Why do you think I turned the Ottoman demand down? Because I didnt wanted you to get it in a peace treaty (which you would rape of course).

<Mao shoots an advisor for bothering him with this message>

<Mao promotes a new advisor and shoots him too, just for fun. From now on, Mao looks out for Mao, all these god damn Persian sympathisers are getting annoying. Mao is so pissed off that he goes and executes 50 slaves. They deserved it, they weren't Chinese>

<Mao picks up the phone, shoots another servant, and talks to Xerxes>

I told you I wanted to take on the Ottomans. The reasoning was simple. They were about to finish with the Greeks, I was going to attack them when they attacked me, or pre-emptively if I could. The Ottoman war against you did what I needed. It weakened the Ottomans so they were not a threat. The cities are still looking good, but when I take them I need cash to hurry the improvements as they will grow too slowly. They will also add corruption to my now maximised cities further away, so they are a long-term prospect.

The details:

You said that I was not allowed free reign on the Ottomans or you wouldn't extend the peace remember? As the more dominant force you said that for peace to be extended I had to promise not to take too much in the way of Ottoman territory. This is a transcript from the early negotiations:

ERIKK zegt:
leaves three parties
ERIKK zegt:
what will happen then?
ERIKK zegt:
I can set them uo to you
ERIKK zegt:
with some techs
ERIKK zegt:
2 against 1
ERIKK zegt:
no fun IMO
anarres zegt:
we should expend our treaty
ERIKK zegt:
yup
ERIKK zegt:
a non agression pact amoung all three
ERIKK zegt:
Hello?
anarres zegt:
all 3?
ERIKK zegt:
I wont let you take over Otto's too...
ERIKK zegt:
yoiu will to BIG
ERIKK zegt:
do you understand
ERIKK zegt:
?

So, you wanted to extend the peace treaty, and for me not to attack the Ottomans. In the end you agreed to let me take the eastern cities, but not capture the northern ones, and you would only let the peace go on to turn 235, not 250 as you first suggested.

Now you are upset because I didn't attack the Ottomans, which is actually what you wanted in the first place. So, none of the 'free non agreesion ride' nonsense please, it was you who suggested it, and you who threatened to withdraw it.

Let me know if I'm missing something. And as for not using up my units, you are free to negotiate for a treaty past 235. I have already suggested this.

I am not here to screw you, but you can't blame me for the Ottomans attacking you. I was fully intending to take the Ottoman cities but tactics changed when I wasn't under immediate threat of invasion. I am a few techs from tanks, it would be nice to take the Ottmans with tanks. IIRC, you didn't have to beat 50+ Infantry with Cavalry when you fought them.

Anyway, my attitiude is currently cautious, I suggest you cool down too...

...unless you want to fight, in which case this makes a perfect excuse. ;) :hammer:
