Is it possible to make your own animated GIFs for use on this site... I would really like the fish to explode when shot... See my signature below...

Just like the head does in this animation...

:die:

Thanks for the reply, but I wasn't talking about the avatar (my avatar is the plane, right?)... I just want to include an exploding fish in my signature... Someone had to make all of those icons on the "Smiles" page... let's make an exploding fish

You can't attach images in your sigs, only the default smilies.

I guess you could get TF to find an exploding fish smilie and replace it with the current one, but that'd be a long shot.

BTW, a question I've been meaning to ask: How do you make animated GIF's? Nothing too fancy, just a few simple frame changes.

Most forums I know "borrow" their smilies from other forums, I'm not sure about CFC. Try to make it yourself if you want, although you'll have to covince TF to make it a site smiley if you want to use it in your signature.

I think there's a way to do it in photoshop with layers... But to keep it simple save the frames you want ing gif format and download some program for making animated gifs.

I would think you could use the exploding part only from the die animation

:die:

and merge it with the fish one

:fish:

and call it diefish or something.... :D

Hey, TF how many posts before I can make requests... :D

I use JASC Animation Shop

Sorry. I misread what you were asking.

And yes, you can use animated gifs here - they just need a url and be wrapped in IMG tags. Many posters (Crazy Eddie comes to mind with his "Spearman vs Tank" smiley) have done so.

However, unless you convince TF to add them to the smilies table, they won't be able to be used in sigs. ;)

Is there a tool that's free and doesn't have any drawbacks for being free/not registering? I've found a tool called adgif, but it annoyingly adds the text "UNREGISTERED" to the images, unless I fork out 35 bucks. Plus I can't get it to animate by switching from image to image; it just starts with the first one, then adds on (instead of replacing with) the second one. Oh well.

Maybe I should ask this in the computer forum?

Edit: Never mind, I see there's already a thread about it...

Edit2: Now I've found a great, free GIF animator. :)

Of course, you could always get rid of your current sig and paste your 'new signature' in every post you make...

Then again, I could see how that may get just slightly annoying. ;)

Sorry, but pictures in signatures aren't allowed for over a year and a half now.

Why cant we? Almost all other forums have them!

:(

(by the way, i think that an exploding fish would be useless)

'Cause some posters put in really big images into their images. It was quite distracting, and TF decided to do away with them. I fully support his decision. ;)

The mods don't really have time to be the sig image police as well.

Why not make an image limit, like 65 pixels tall by, say, 400 pixels wide.

This way its more of a banner. Then we can make our sig quotes artisitic and cool. :p

That's what I was thinking, but I doubt that there's a way to set a limit on the dimensions of images allowed in signatures.

Then again, even now the moderators have to make sure sigs are five lines and under; it wouldn't really be anymore tedious. In fact, it would probably be easier, since you can right-click an image to see how big it is, but you have to use your best judgement to know whether a sig is five lines or not. Then again, users who just want to make trouble might make inappropriate pictures. But on the other hand (hmm, that's four hands), people can post inappropriate pictures in posts anyway.

Therefore, I conclude that I'd like it if we brought back sig-images. Not that it's too important. (I already asked TF about animated avatars, maybe I should stop whining... :hmm: )

hmmmmmm...... I for some reason sig-images are allowed in some form on the site again, can I have my banana?

I seriously doubt sig-images would ever be allowed again, and if they were, I bet there'd be a rule that animated ones aren't allowed.

Just hope that one day your banana will be added to the list of smilies. :D
