I think sig pictures will take a lot of space from the site. I'd rather have higher quiality avatars allowed than to have a picture in my sig.

I wouldn't mind picture-sigs. Not animated, relatively small and banner-like. However, I personally prefer sigs be kept as-is. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
