Given the wild success of my first PBEM game (OK - not yet wild success, as my first game only just began), I am now taking signups for my second PBEM game!

This game will begin either as soon as we have 8 players or on the morning of Sunday, January 5th (Arizona time), whichever comes first.

You should be aware of the following requests before signing up for the game:
1. Please be extremely conscientious about both checking your e-mail and replying to received messages. Please check your e-mail at least once daily, and reply to received messages as soon as you possibly can (preferably immediately after receipt).
2. Please commit to completing your turn and forwarding it within 24 hours of receipt.
3. Please commit to letting the group as a whole know when you will be unavailable for a certain period of time (weekend trip, etc.). Since this is a PBEM game, I presume no one is in a hurry, but we will appreciate your courtesy all the same.
4. Please commit to differentiating between "in-game" and "out-of-game" communications. "Out-of-game" communications mainly consist of administrative matters, such as "Dude, where's my turn?" e-mails and the like. Sharing information about your civ or other players' civs, making deals, proposing alliances and so forth are all considered "in-game" communications. Please do not enter into "in-game" communications with another player until you have made contact with that player's civilization.
So far, we have the following definite players:
• heihojin (me) - no civ preference yet, will probably pick randomly
• Aggie96 - no civ preference yet specified
If you would like to play, please send me a message indicating so with your e-mail address and civ preference (if applicable). The message can be PM, a posted reply, or e-mail. Spots and civ preferences will be filled first-come, first-served, as judged by the time stamp. I will be glad to keep a couple alternates in mind also, in the unfortunate event a player is unable to complete the game.

If you have not specified a civ preference by the start of the game, one will be randomly assigned to you.

Please post suggestions for rules, map settings, etc. Most rules and settings are negotiable, and I will generally side with the majority. The default settings will be:
• Game Type: Play By Email
• Game Mode: Standard
• Turn Timer: None
• World Size: Standard
• Barbarian Activity: Roaming
• Land Mass: Continents
• Water Coverage: 70% Water
• Climate: Normal
• Temperature: Normal
• Age: 4 Billion
• Difficulty: Regent
• Allow Domination Victory
• Allow Space Race Victory
• Allow Diplomatic Victory
• Allow Conquest Victory
• Allow Cultural Victory
• Allow Civ-Specific Abilities
• Preserve Random Seed
• Allow Cultural Conversions

I have also seen games that prohibited deals between players that were not enforceable through the game itself. In general I see no reason to prohibit such deals, as I am strongly disinclined to put restrictions on player diplomacy. If you can convince me otherwise, I may change my mind; but keep in mind that unless otherwise specified, player diplomacy is unrestricted once you make contact with that player's civilization.

Here's to the next war!

So far we have the following players confirmed:
• heihojin (me) - random civ
• Aggie96 - no civ preference specified
• japskua - Babylonians
• FinTom - random civ
• Nish - random civ
• Civ - random civ
Col gets a spot if he gets his e-mail address to me before I fill the last two spots. :undecide:

If you'd like to play, post a reply, PM me, or send me an e-mail with your e-mail address and civ preference (if any). I will not hold your spot unless you give me your e-mail address.

As you are in such a hurry, here's col's adress before he loses his spot: colinf_AT_btinternet.com

_AT_ = @ ;)

BTW
Remember to post your turns of the PBEM in the PBEM forum. Maybe chieftess should move your other PBEM thread.

I'm more concerned with actually playing the game than with posting turns in a public forum. Once we start the game, all communication should be by e-mail.

Count me in - Luk - lukcas@wp.pl - Russian (well, I would like to rename it to Slav Confederate, it is possible in PBEM games)

• Aggie96 - no civ preference yet specified
• col - "Lankies" (customized random civ)
• japskua - Babylonians
• FinTom - random civ
• Nish - random civ

I will send out the introductory e-mail within 24 hours, and the game will begin shortly thereafter. If you have not yet specified a civilization preference, you have until I send the introductory e-mail to do so.

I am really impressed, both with the speed with which these games fill and with the global diversity of this game! USA, UK, Finland, Lithuania, Poland, Japan...this is really cool.

Thanks everyone for a great response! If you didn't get in the game, keep an eye out for my 3rd game, for which I'll likely begin taking signups next week...

I just e-mailed the introductory welcome message to all players.

When you receive it, please e-mail me a response indicating as such. If you did not receive it, please let me know.

The game begins today! :goodjob:

As I'm sure you have read from the related e-mail exchange, this game will continue to be played as v1.14f until all players have access to the v1.21f patch.

If you need to create two distinct installations of Civ3:PTW on your PC, please follow these directions:
1. Copy the entire CIV3PTW folder to some other directory (perhaps C:\), and rename the copy (perhaps as "CIV3PTW v1.21f").
2. Uninstall Civ3:PTW and restart your computer.
3. Reinstall Civ3:PTW.
4. Download the v1.14f patch from here.
5. Install the v1.14f patch.
This way when you launch Civ3:PTW normally, it will pull up as v1.14f. When you want to play v1.21f, browse to the copied directory you made and launch "Civilization3X.exe" (the executable). You can also create a shortcut to this file on your desktop; just be sure to label it as "v1.21f".

Note that even when using two distinct installations, your default Saves folder will always be in your Civilization III\CIV3PTW folder, and **NOT** the copied folder you made!

This may sound complex, and I apologize for the need to do this. If you have any questions or need any assistance, please ask - I will do my utmost to ensure that this is as painless as possible for you, and that this game survives.

It is with great disappointment that I must announce the abortion of Game 2, a Civilization III: Play the World PBEM game that began on December 31, 2002. Unfortunately, severe file corruption prevents us from completing this game. Thank you, Firaxis, for showing us what a quality product you can make!

Although score in PTW is not a good predictor of victory, you may be interested to know the standings for this game as of the last turn (1070 AD):
1. FinTom (Greeks) - 769
2. heihojin (Egyptians) - 702
3. EL_OSO, playing as "Aggie96" - 648
4. Playboy, playing as "Nish" - 611
Thanks to all for a great game while it lasted!
