Annoying pop ups

Recently I have had some problems with pop ups on my computer. These are Internet Explorer pops. I get them while I am browsing while using Firefox and when I am not even browsing any websites. What could be causing this. I did a partial scan with my anti virus and found nothing. Is it some change in my settings I need to look for? Or should I download a pop up blocker? Or is it malware or adware?


EDIT- This all started after I tried to change the proxy settings on my Firefox then got rid of the changes, its it possible this could be the cause?

Adware. Your antivirus will likely not see it. You need something like Spybot, or equivalent.
