I've been playing several different empires recently but I keep on ending up restarting for one reason or another.

My first reasonable game ever was as the Ottomans and after quite a long time playing I had established a large empire but then I was miles behind in technology so the game became less appealing to play since I could only potentially expan east and that meant Persia. The alternates were an advanced Austria that had been pushed back past Venice or a huge Russia

Next was a game as England where I had all of France as well as all of the UK bar parts of Ireland, Holland, parts of West Germany/Switzerland, southern Norway, Mexico, Parts of the US, the beginnings of an empire in Africa after wars with the nations below Morrocco and a string of colonies all the way to India but then the game got dull because there was nothing left to do except to keep on colonising and deal with rebellions...

Then there was the game as Russia which you can read about in another thread. A large Russian empire was formed and after achieving the target there wasn't much motivation to continue especially as the last time I loaded tthe game I got a load of rebellions in the south which I could have eventually destroyed but its not a great start.

Sweden was the next empire to be formed and I might play the game again but ultimately I had succeeded in largely uniting Scandanavia except for one or two provinces and had also stopped Russia from forming but I had no real targets left to fight and couldn't afford to start a new war anyway.

Saxony was the diplomatic game where after winning an opening war, the rest of the game consisted of a series of diplomatic annexations until I had formed a reasonably large empire but then found myself as the weaker empire when compared to either of the two big neighbours, Austria and France who were both more advanced and kept on allying which each other. One day I might play it again and think about trying to conquer the north but again the yearly rebellions kind of put me off reloading especially when war weariness and stability have always been positive.

Gujarat was the next challenge but after forming a nice empire stretching from Persia to the east where I owned northern India I once again reached a point where I just didn't want to progress because all that was left was to sit back and wait for loans to be paid off and my reputation to heal...

Recently I've been playing as Venice. I now realise just how important reputation can be. After largely uniting Italy and gaining Greece and Constantinople I have gone through a series of continuous wars. After diplomatically annexing Tuscany, I have faced a minor invasion from England, then Spain, then Austria and allies, then Spain and Aragorn, then a huge rebellion as a result of the last war and just as that was beginning to be cleared up, Hungary and allies declared war... I'm thinking about putting the difficulty and aggression down to their lowest levels to see if there is any way of stopping the continuous wars...

Feel free to post your own games, comments or advice :)

Also does everyone else actually play the entire grand campain all the way through?

I usually play Byzantinians, Russians, England or Spain. My last 2 games were for Bosina (try to survive) and Iroques (hopeless).....
I WILL FIX MY DAMN GRAPHIC CARD and will show you pics from my last games as soon as I log on to EU2.

I play the whole campaign.

Do you ever find games becoming either too easy or too repetative?

Anyway I might see how far I can get in my game as Milan. Just had a successful wa against the Ottomans which leaves them with one random Russian province and Thrace on the Europe side whilst I have 3 provinces on their side. They had diploannexed Crimea which gave me the CB I needed. I think it is now likely that we will fight each other a third time and hopefully then I will be able to gain Armenia.

I went and played vicky for about a year now then tried my hand at the EEP-AGC from paradox forums (which by the way I highly recommend). In about 300 years I had all the byzantine claims, so I tried to see what could do with spain.

I stopped when I got to budapest.

Did anyone play as China? I heard it is near impossible with all the rebellions adn backward tech. Or the Timurides?

I thought China was was very strong in the game, I don't want to play them though as that would mean controlling a huge empire.

I find most strategy games are like that - don't know how they can changes the games to improve it though.

Mods help :). Esp in Civ 2 :D
Did you try Tamurid Empire Dell?

Not yet I only have a certain amount of time to spend playing games and that empire doesn' really appeal to me that much...

Try its a very good challenge even for an experienced player. Tell me how many provinces you'll have in the end :).

Its meant to be similar but less complex.

A list of some of the advantages of Victoria over EU2 from a poster at another site:
- The new map. Much more provinces to conquer, and none of that annoying "permanent terra incognita"!
- Most of the diplomacy. I particularly love the "negotiation" function.
- Most of the combat; the bonus for surrounding enemy armies in particular is great and make for much more interesting warfare.
- The economic model is interesting and rather well done. Much better than EU2 in that respect.
- The tech system more interesting and the difference between official techs you can research and inventions triggered by them is a good idea.

Sounds great! Can someone provide a link?
