The problem: Weird artifacts on screen:
-A bunch of clusters of 5-10 pixels will be on the screen in random places. The center of the cluster will have a 'weird' version of the colour that would be underneath, the surrounding pixels in the cluster will be black.
-They don't appear on the map too much, but they are all over the UI elements, to the point where the UI becomes illegible.
-They appear pretty randomly. I can play for a few days and not have the glitch, then the next week I can't last more than 2 turns in the game without the glitch appearing. I don't have to reboot my computer to 'fix' the problem, just exit and restart Civ.
-Also, the problem doesn't affect other games/my desktop when it happens. When Civ freaks out, when I quit to the desktop there's no graphics errors, nor do they reappear if I start a different game.
My specs:
CPU: P4 2.8C
MOBO: ASUS P4P800-SE
RAM: 2GB (4x512) Samsung DDR-400
GPU: BFG 6800 GT OC 256MB
I built this rig myself, it's got an assload of fans (and an aftermarket VGA Cooler) and I monitor it's performance very closely. Ambient temp stays between 30-40 C, CPU temp peaks around 40 C under load, and GPU temp peaks at 50 C under load. So it's not an overheating issue causing the glitches.
All the drivers and relevant software are up to date, ditto on the BIOS. I'm also running the latest Civ patch. I tried uninstalling / reinstalling my graphics drivers, as well as Civ, just to be sure.

I do a lot of other 3D with my computer, and it has no problems in any other game or design tool. Currently I'm working on a Total Conversion for Quake IV, and I do level design, prop models, and coding. The level editor is a massive resource whore for RAM and for the GPU (since the levels don't get portaled by the editor, so if you keep camera clipping off it has to draw the whole level), but I've never seen any glitches occur.
None of the other 3D games I play has any problems running on my system either. Quake IV I run at 1600x1200 with everything on and V-sync it at 60-hz with no frops in fps, ditto for Doom-3. So I don't think it's a hardware issue on my end.
Any help would be appreciated.
