Just an idea: after starting your first main religion you can use another great prophet to start an anti-religion. This would be spread by spies to enemy cities and would hurt their cities. You would pick beliefs like -1 food for rivers or -2 hapiness etc that you could pick to hurt your enemy's cities as much as possible depending on which tiles they have. The enemy would then have to eliminate the religion from their city by inquisitors.
what do you think?

Sounds like some religions that already exist in real life. Maybe something like "Young Earth Creationism" reducing the science output of public schools.

Say hi to Jim Jones, one of the bigest mass murderers in history.

Anyways, no. The AI converting half of your cities with a great prophet and making them follow a religion that hurts them isn't fun, it's annoying. IMPORTANT GAME DESIGN ADVICE: Any negative effect should come from the player making a choice/mistake. Not from outside sources, like a rampant AI that suddenly decides to spam your a** with negative modifiers. One Espionage is enough, and a lot of people dislike even that system in each and every one of its iterations exactly for the reasons I described.

How would you like it if five other civs sent their anti-religions after you? Sounds like the Dark Ages idea for Civ 3 that was scrapped.
