Any benefit to contributing GP to wonder?

Aside from gaining benefit from a wonder itself, is there any benefit to contributing a GP to the building of a wonder?

1-2 of the people who contributed to the building of the wonder (randomly selected) will gain 1 culture medal (1 fame). These people then get promoted one rank within their civ to the top-most row of the new rank.

Sometimes it's less hassle to build it than to go to war for it. Generally, though, wonders are worth building only if you just got the tech to make it available, and it's cheap, or if building that last wonder gets you an era victory.
