im not sure how to get out of this mess, i have no great wonders, im way behind in tech(right behind nationalism and everyone else is at replaceable parts) and cant research, support a medium military or buy techs, this is my 3rd game on regent and never won yet even when i cheated and had super tanks i modified, anyways heres my savegame to see what im doing wrong.

Put some stats up and maybe a screen shot for those of us who can't/won't load up your game.

Regent huh? No wonders by industrial age isn't too great, but won't spoil your game. A few tips:
Make sure you are in Democracy.
Your inner cities shouldn't have more than one troop garrision.
If there is a resource you need thats close to your country and owned by another civ, gather up calvary and take the cities you need quickly before the AI builds a lot of riflemen.

But here is my guess as to why you are doing poorly, even with supertanks:
You don't have enough workers! By now all of your cities should be connected to each other via roads, including all of your resources. Your 'major' cities should have a lot of mines/irrigation in them as well. The general rule is 1 worker/city, but I always go a little high to make sure my infastructure is built up properly. Stay away from that automate button!

That's actually not too bad techwise (although the AI being at replacable parts at 1265 is almost respectable for regent... (kind of quick).

Anyway, one thing - you have too much irragated grassland. Mine them. Your most productive city is only 8spt!!!

You have lots of horsemen running around, upgrade them! (warriors and spears too!). Also, You'll want lots of cannons. You're making 122gpt, and you're not even researching (no wonder you're behind in tech). First, research something. Second, research up to Scientific Method (build ToE to get 2 free techs, and hoovers). You also need to trade maps. I just made a trade, and revealed almost the entire world.

America is in the modern era (nice for regent, must've been a peaceful game), unless it's a modpack.

Also, trade for iron and coal, you need these badly. Build a railnet, build up on cannons, and try to trade. You're way behind in techs, so don't bother researching. Instead, buy your techs for the lowest price possible.

Checking the cities finally reveals why it seems the AI is so far ahead in techs.

1 - AP. Get rid of it! Never play an AP game again. It completely messes up your game. (To me, it feels like a way of cheating)

2 - Governors - Get rid of them, too! They don't know how to manage production. Sidon is starving. Use the lux slider so that your governor doesn't starve your cities.

well as my screen shot will show all my land is mined, irrigated and filled by roads so my workers are sleeping, cities are spaced every 2 squares from eachother(about 24, 4 were conquered from rome).

view of my lands

my score and such

my score and such 2

i linked the screenshots to save room.

AP? i dont know what you mean, dont know the game terms too well, and yea its been peaceful till recently when england attacked rome but anyways i'll try that.

Ahh, your kingdom is a lake. Chieftess is an uber-goddess@civ, you don't have to be her, but you should work towards her suggestion of no AP/governors, but lets take it one step at a time:

General rule: mine all of the grassland and hills, irrigate everything else. Irrigating grasslands doesn't usually help you until AFTER hospitals. This is probably your biggest advantage over the AI, being able to cultivate your lands to maximize production. Wake up all of your workers, and start mining! Start with your core cities, and move outwards.

Governors...they do suck...but CAN be useful when you are learning. For now, tell them to maximize production and manage happiness, before you move up a level though, you really need to practice phasing them out of your games. This requires obtaining luxuries and learning how to use the luxury slider. Take a look at your cities now, you are starving DESPITE all that extra food you make, so you need to move the luxury slider up to 30%(tested in game). You can trade for luxuries, iron and coal. Check your F2 screen often to see what is availible for trade.

The Republic is hurting you financially due to unit cost. Time to upgrade to Democracy. Try to stay away from republic for a few games. I loathe to say this, but your current setup is perfect for the Feudalist government. LOL, but don't switch to that. Democracy or facism is the way to go for this game. Don't forget to build a few temples and cathedrals, seems you like building stock exchanges BEFORE them, this is a :nono: the first buildings you make should be temples or barracks in most cities.

OUCH! Just got to take a quick look at your save...everyone else is in the modern age, and america has a death squad sitting inside your land. Bad times. You don't have nearly enough defence to protect yourself...and no real way to attack them either. My sugestion is to abandon this game, and chalk it up to experience. At this point your only possible win is the UN, and that is unlikely seeing as how everyone is annoyed with you. Or as a challange, you could try to just stay alive the rest of the game, and maybe attack rome for the wines.

I am not a big fan of cities so compact as yours, try spacing them out a little in the next game. I like the article about placing 'temp' cities that use up the unused space to just make military units until hospitals come around, but your setup is VERY tight, and a strategy best used by heavy warmongers.

I suggest before going any further to open up the War Academy, and read a few articles about city placement, happiness, workers, and defense.

I am kind of worn out after my finals...so I am going to leave it at that.

thanks for the pointers, like i said this was only my 4th time playing on regent so im basically playing learning games till i get myself up to par, in the end of this game it was a space race loss but i got like 7 techs really soon after the saved game year, i was in 4th place by about 200 points in the end but i had 500 more points than my last lost.

As the others have said, mine every single one of those grassland tiles. Do that and your production will be able to match the other civs, even if they are bigger than you - since the AI does way too much irrigation, their production is lower than it could be.
