Any Import Gamers out there?

Having been a gamer now for over 13 years I've seen the North American PC/Console game industry go from it's infancy to where it is now.

I've come to the realization that today's games for the North American market are substandard. There are too many GTA clones, mindless FPS's (not that there is anything wrong with that but only in extreme moderation), and pathetic strategy games that require multiple patches just to get the game to work never mind act they way they were promised to.

With their lame box art to subject matter I've recently abandoned the North American market and begun my trip down Import Gaming Lane. It seems to be that as a strategy gamer Japan has much more to offer than North American game makers. With the advent of the PSP and it's region free coding I can import foreign games to my hearts content. I'm also planning on buying an import PS2 rather than take the plunge and buying a PS3 when it becomes available.

Check out Playasia.com for all your import needs. Of course you may have to begin learning how to read Japanese but if your a hardcore strat gamer then you owe it to yourself to see what we here in North America have been missing.

If you're looking for creativity in games, look at Japan and Japan only.

Game companies in Taiwan, HK and Korea know very little except these:
1) Import and translate games from USA/Japan/Other countries
2) Copy. There're waves and waves of clones... Warcraft clones, C&C clones, Diablo clones, MMORPG clones.

There have been a few good products from them, but those are very rare cases.

Their scales are just too small to try anything creative/innovative. Perhaps after these waves of clones some of them would have gathered some money to try something new on their own... but I'm not holding my breath.
