With the new option in Beyond the Sword allowing you to use any Leader/Civilization combination, I was wondering how many people were going to try this feature out...

I'm a fan of random personalities, but this is a bit much for me...I like Ghandi trying to spear me down, but to see him represent the Zulu civilization is probably just to weird...

I might end up trying it eventually...But I'll be choosing which leader goes with which civ...

While I'll play the occasional game with a delicately chosen leader and civ combination with the intention of trying out a strategy of some kind, that's not what my main use for this option will be.

Random leaders. Instead of being assigned 1 of 52 possible leader/civ combinations you'll be assigned 1 of 1768 (34 x 52) possible leader/civ combinations. Player two will be assigned 1 of 1683 (33 x 51) possible leader/civ combinations.

Player 3: 1 of 1600
Player 4: 1 of 1519
Player 5: 1 of 1440
Player 6: 1 of 1363
Player 7: 1 of 1288
Player 8: 1 of 1215
Player 9: 1 of 1144
Player 10: 1 of 1075
Player 11: 1 of 1008
Player 12: 1 of 943
Player 13: 1 of 880
Player 14: 1 of 819
Player 15: 1 of 760
Player 16: 1 of 703
Player 17: 1 of 648
Player 18: 1 of 595

Strictly speaking it depends on the AI. If it's been designed so that the AI can play according to the strengths and weaknesses provided by its randomly assigned traits, unique unit, building, and maybe even starting technologies then the mix and match of leaders and civs will make for great variation.

If not then it'll only really be good in multiplayer.

I want to see random traits over this idea but its for flavour i might use this some day.

I may try it out once or twice, but I doubt I will use it often.

i don't like this, it will make the game unbalanced!

strong civ's have weak leaders(ceasar), strong leaderrs (boudica) has weak civs, CELTIC

I'll probably try it out once or twice, but it's not something I'm over keen on. I prefer the idea od a leader leading the civ they are intended to.

Same here, although it might be fun to have Gandhi as the leader of the Mongol horde.

If it was for SP I'd agree with thedrin, stack it with random personalities, and give it a shot, just to spice things up by giving me unique opponents, but I seem to remember someone saying in one of the articles that it's only for MP, and I don't thing that's good at all. Human oponents will definitely abuse it.

There are some interesting what if scenarios I want to try that allows for some interesting rewriting of history.

What if Hannibal or Boudica was more successful invaded, conquered and actually bacame rulers of the Romans? You can sort of already do this by playing with them on the map but you can't get Roman Legions(Prats) under your command!

What if Sitting Bull for some reason was somehow able to pull off running for President and become leader of the Americans?

What if Alexander was Egyptian?

I'll definatly give it a whirl. Not every single game, but it should make things interesting from time to time. The random personalities is a great idea, too! MontyGhandi of Russia should be fun :)

I'll use it once or twice to try it out, but probably won't end up liking it too much.

Why Boudica as the Romans? It was Brennus who actually made it into Rome.

Yah i was thinking of that question to. Maybe people want a hot leader? possibly for teh traits of Boudica though.

I'd probably switch a couple of leader around here and there...Try Kubla as China, Charlemagne as France...But not all the time...
