Any specific era mods?

I was wondering are there any mods that have specific eras to play?

For example only ancient era, or only medieval era, or only industrial or only modern etc...

If not how do you actually limit technologies in the game? I know you can lock technologies because ive seen it already in some mods, but how do you actually do that?
