Any suggestions?

Before I reloaded my Civ 3 Game of the Year, I had hunted down updates that allowed me an option to "quicken" the game along. If I checked a certain box, the number of turns to produce oh say, a temple, was cut in half. I've installed the update Alan H suggested, Civ 3 1.29b2 Updater. However it doesn't seem to have had any effect on my game whatsoever. My first thought was that I installed it wrong. But it seems to be a no brainer. I installed it to my Civ 3 file. Any suggestions? I really hate being a pain but I play my Civ 3 on a daily basis and can't stand the fact that it's not working correctly.

By not working correctly, you mean the feature that allows you to increase production is not being applied? In the start up menus, where you select your civ, there are a number of options at the bottom. Usually, the default are highlighted. The option you want is there, just choose it before starting a new game.

Do you mean the updater has had no effect on your game? The changes may not stick out like sore thumbs. The more obvious ones are:

1. The version number at bottom left on the main splash screen should now say Version 1.29b2.

2. You can now select a unit in a stack, hit 'J' and point to a destination tile and all units of that type in the stack will move to the destination together.

3. It prolly won't crash so often.

Whether or not the upgrade affects an existing mod depends on what that mod did. If it changed any existing files that are then replaced by the upgrade then some or all of the mod will stop working. If the mod files are not replaced by the upgrade then it will continue to operate.

The mod will not change the rules in an existing game, as they are embedded in that save file.

On the main menu mine still says Version 1.21g instead of Version 1.29b2. So I've obviously installed it wrong. When it said choose I put it into the Civilization game file. Not correct? The "j" button works just fine.

Ok. I've installed Civ3 1.29b2 Updater and the accelerated version is now available. Problem mostly solved. Now what do I have to do for the GOTM?

By the way Allen I really appreciate your walking me through this!;)

If you are running OS X (sorry, can't recall if you said) then download the All-in-One GOTM Installer for Mac 1.29b2, linked in my signature. Run it to install the GOTM mods.

That's it if you want to play the GOTM games. Just download the start file for a GOTM for version 1.29, play the game and submit your final save according to the instructions on the GOTM web site. The current game is GOTM 51, and closing date is the 15th Feb. The next game will start on the same date and run for a month.

There are also readme instructions in the installer for adapting your software to play random games with the GOTM scenario developed by Bluebox, using the extra GOTM civs that are installed. You just have to swap a couple of files, but remember to swap them back before playing GOTMs or normal games.

Ok. We are looking good now. Got everything loaded up and running. Now, GOTM, Vanilla or Play the world?

Your version 1.29 is vanilla. Your software doesn't have the 'real' PtW expansion kit, you've only installed a mod with some extra GOTM civs to emulate it.

For each Class (Conquest, Open, Predator) there are two download icons. Choose your class, then click the appropriate icon like the one below to get the file you need:

BTW I misled you on the closing date for GOTM 51. It was extended by one week to Feb 22 to allow for the previous game's extension over the holiday period. Normally they open and close on 15th of the month.

Note that you cannot play COTMs, eg COTM 21, using your software. You would need Aspyr's new Civ 3 Complete to do that. Civ3 Complete would also allow you to play GOTMs using the PtW saves with no need to add mods.

I can't thank you enough Allen for the help you have given me over the past few days. Thank you thank you!
