Any way to destroy my own forts in my own terrain?

anyway to destroy them as I abandon them?

Get a worker to build a trading post on the fort, and cancel it after 1 turn.

I only build forts to get rid of farms which the AI has build on desert tiles. I presume they can't be pillaged?

it's simpler to just not let the AI capture the city. an AI unit in your fort doesn't get the bonus.
