Any way to get a ship to cross over an isthmus?

I am playing with the AND mod.

It'd be neat if there was a tech that served a similar function as Construction and building bridges, that would build canals over these strips of land. Coincidentally AND does have a Canal tech but it doesn't have that functionality.

I know that I can build forts and that'll allow ships to navigate over land, but it's really not important enough to spend a tile. It's more of an aesthetic desire. I'd like to connect a chain of lakeside cities together to the ocean.

Nope...not unless some feature was modded in. A fort on either tile would work, ofc, and it appears that the resource tile (furs?) is not worth a city anyway so a fort would work well there and with a road the resource is connected, or a city if it is worth it there.

One problem with your particular case represent here is that the block is actually not represented by a tile but rather just the connection between two diagonal land tiles. In other words no direct action of some sort could be performed on the blockage. I suspect modding some feature to make a canal would require some action on adjacent tiles such as...say...work boat action on one or each of the corresponding water tiles, or likewise something a worker can do next to it. But I'm not sure how the game would recognize that a "canal" should go where it actually should.

Only thing that remotely comes to mind is how drawing rivers works in worldbuilder. Basically, use the same mechanic as how rivers are created but with a new terrain feature called "canal" that allows ship passage. And, ofc, adding some worker action that allows it.

I guess that in the world builder you can't place a terrain square, like that grassland with furs, and make it an island; it will create a peninsula. You might want it to be an island but then you could not move land units to it without a ship.
