Hi,

Playing a Prince game as Gorgo. I have 3 cities with London to my west, on the coast. They attack me, along with two others. I make peace with the other two but decide to wipe out the English and capture London. Egypt is to London's south, on the coast too. London already has a Holy Site, so when I get my Great Prophet, I decided to found Catholicism in London.

No sooner has it been founded than missionaries come up from Egypt from the south. I declare war, but it too late to stop the missionaries, and they convert London. I capture all Egypt cities, but now I have no cities with Catholicism.

Is there any possible way for me to get Catholicism in any of my Cities to get this Religion back? Or, is there anyway that I can make Egypt's Religion my Religion? Or am I SOL as far as Religion goes this game?

Thanks.

Try enabling the inquisition with an apostle, and hopefully inquisitors should remove anything which isn't "your religion", as stated by the religion screen.

Ps. religious units heal when resting near holy districts - so have a team of three apostles which kill all hostile missionaries, and then go heal them up after having done some theological fighting. It will keep the foreigners away without having to declare actual war on them!

This doesn't work. It removes whichever religion is the minority. I accidentally completely eliminated my religion in my holy city this way.

Does that mean I really am out of luck then? And thanks for the tip nComrade.

I had a similar problem when I founded a religion somewhat late, and a wave of evangelists came through... converted my holy city, and ever since then I've been unable to buy any of my own religious units. Despite the city being fought over by competing religions and ultimately sitting at "no dominant religion" for a very very long time.

It seems my holy city doesn't have a default, always-on religious pressure?

You are SOL. It's really bogus when they do that. I feel for you. Sometimes I get lucky and the convert my other cities and not my holy city. That's why I try to pop my missionaries as soon as I found a religion.

Asking them not to convert cities sometimes works. I did that with India, and they only tried to convert my city one time (they happened to be right next to it, so it was too tempting for them to pass up). It delayed them enough until I could get apostles to "defend".

OK. Thanks. Shouldn't be a big deal in this game, because I've already eliminated 3 Civs. More to come.
