I am not sure what forum to post this in, but I would like to ask you guys whether you ever started Global Warming because of nuke exchanges?
I have used upto 7 nukes and been nuked 5 times in a single game and never saw any hin of global warming.:nuke::nuke::nuke::nuke::nuke::nuke:
What is the tolerance level of the planet?

(vanilla) I have seen it on a standard map after a nuclear exchange. What it does is, it changes a tile here and there into desert and if there is a town there for example, Aliens will swoop down and make it dissapear..... well i just assume it must be aliens since i havn't heard of anything else in existance other than military or volcanic activity that can dissapear a town? certainly not desert.

The only time I've ever fired a nuke, I sent it just into the ocean far away, to see if it did have infinite range. Soon after, my nation started getting hit with a new global warming area (or two, or even three) every turn, and had I not won by 2000, I can guarantee my nation would have been completely desert in 25 years.

And yet, others such as you see no effects from seven times as many nukes. Seems unbalanced to me.

Well anyone living in a desert country such as Arabia who have succeeded with very effective desert irrigation, would play civ4 and realise how dumb it is that they cannot improve desert tiles in the game when they can look ouside the window and see it all happening for real!

Desert irrigation is a reality, when will civ4 catch up?

I got a horsehockyload of global warming a game wher I tried out nuclear power plants.

Thats just stupid like wtf? Nuclear power plats are a clean source of energy, if anything, coal powerplats should cause gobal warming

I suggest you go into world builder and give yourself a bunch of nukes. Like a hundered. Shoot them all off on like the first turn and see how long it takes for the entire world to turn into desert. (seven turns for me) :nuke:

If you are unlucky, an AI builds an nuclear power plant, which then might break down.
It is global warming, so you will experience desertification of your tiles even if your are not at all the cause.
This can be annoying.

I'll definitely try that...... that should answer the question
On second thoughts I am not likely to do it as I am an environmentalist... but hey, I never use that civic since it is absolutely useless

Hehehehe, yea thats true, by the time your finally open the technology for it, you are already so far advanced that you have absolutely no need for it!!

To be of any use at all, it would have to be accesible much earlier in the game.

Environmentalism is definitely not useless. It allows your cities to grow to their full potential which means more production or specialists. Test it out by playing a game and get to the modern era and convert to Environmentalism and watch what happens to your cities' populations. You have to make sure that you have a way to keep the cities happy though.

As for global warming, when a few nuclear weapons are used, my games always have global warming.

In the first Civ1 and Civ2, there was a global warming meter that started when somebody built the first factory if I recall and as more and more factories and powerplants were built, global warming became a real factor in the later game even without nuclear weapons. Coastal tiles would turn to swamp which was a totally useless tile. Also, pollution would be caused from your industrious cities and your settlers(there were no workers until Civ3) would have to clean up the mess. It was very tedious but the global warming phenomenon did make more sense in that game.

How does environmentalism help cities to grow more? It does not grant any food bonus, just health. So if you have recycling centres already then what good is environmentalism?
Anyway, besides all that, by the time you have the technology for it, since it comes so late on the technology tree, you will already be very advanced and simply will have no need for it. Like i said before, it needs to come quite a bit earlier if it wants to be a viable option for players to use.

You should play out this game. Quick speed and Time Victory off so you can actually get something done .

I said quick speed. IIRC that's only 10 turns for the warrior.

Actually, it's just 5 since your 1 pop will be a Citizen specialist. Besides, if you want better production you can build another city (eventually )

I have experienced global warming. At like the end of a game against Americans. It's really annoying so I just turned it off. Now I can NUKE without fear of global warming consequences.

I would not claim to be an expert on the topic but as I understand how health works and I definitely could be wrong, the higher your health is, the larger population cap that city has. It takes less food to grow so the more healthier a city is the faster it will grow and the larger it will grow. The recycling center grants no unhealthiness from buildings such as forges and factories but does not grant any more health so Environmentalism plus recycling centers will allow for even more growth. This is the advantage for expansive civs. Their cities grow faster and larger than non-expansive civs because they have +2 health or whatever it is these days. I hope that makes sense and somebody could correct me if I have it wrong.

mysticmind - I do agree with you that Environmentalism does come quite late but I think in Warlords it is available with Medicine and that can be teched early enough to be useful.
