Anyone else problems with big games (eg no spaceships?)

Help, please?! With a large world and a couple of one-city ‘pet’ other civilisations, has anyone else had problems with going through all the business of getting the Apollo program and the relevant Science advances … and then the option to build the various spaceship components doesn’t appear on the ‘What shall we build?’ list? It’s really annoying that you’ve spent all those years building up your civ, all for nothing! It’s as though some glitch in the program has triggered the ‘bloodlust’ option even though you haven’t asked for it. Another prob is with a large number of cities, all of a sudden your powergraph line takes a huge dive, and your score suffers accordingly. Anyone know any (not too technical, please!) ways round this? Thank you!

Welcome to CFC!

Are you POSITIVE the "bloodlust" option was NOT checked when the game was created? If you got the starting setup from someone else, or had set that On for your last game and used default settings for the next one, it could be On now.

The other problem sounds like it is related to exceeding the maximums for different counters. One of them, the one people notice most often, is the Treasury value, when it goes from around 32,000 to -16,000 all of the sudden. There is a NoLimits patch around somewhere which might fix this. I don't know specifically if it deals with the PowerGraph rating as well.

On the inability to build the Space Ship, you could attach a saved game file and we may be able to clarify what the problem may be.

On the Power Graph, the downward spike occurs (in 2.42 Classic) when you exceed a "Power Graph score" of 4096. It has no direct effect on either your score, rating, or Power Ranking. If you're playing Classic and you play the game long enough, it will spike back upward when you exceed 8192.

(Since it really is not a "limit" kind of thing, I doubt that the "No limit patch" would effect the spike phenomenon.)

Thanks for the welcome, ElephantU. Yes asbolutely positive that it wasn't checked, because it's happened before, so I always go thru' the customise settings.

Given the nature of the Spaceship problem, I think the first thing you might do is re-install the 2.42 Classic Patch. It's possible that one of the files governing the initial game start-up may be degraded; reinstalling the patch may solve the problem. After reinstalling the patch, start a new game, build a city, enter cheat menu, add all techs, build Apollo, and then see if you have the option of building the SS parts.

If this doesn't work, the problem may be one of the dll files, which would require a full reinstallation; but usually if they're out of whack, they cause the civ2.exe failure.

The problem is none of the above: your save is at 80BC, and no spaceship can be built before AD1. Interesting map, by the way...

Never realized that ... Do you suppose the AD1 exists because the programers assumed nobody could get a Space Ship launched prior to AD1, and therefore avoided the nuisance of writing a subroutine that would convert the BC years to one year intervals that count backwards?

Brilliant - thank you!
I assume that means I can go on playing the game, and then the spaceship comes on line at AD1.
